I totally forgot about this
Am I remembering wrong? I thought Williams was on the hot seat quite a bit prior to the NC. And perhaps toward the end.Do people think that Maryland fans would give an Indiana washout coach a fair chance? The expectations seem to be equally unrealistic at both of the schools. Given this, Maryland may need to take a shot at an up and coming coach. One who has not proven that they can't win at a high level.
Only in the NBA.We're never going to see Hutch really play, are we?
Dang it. In a game we could really use another long rangy guy too.

Think we will see both Goode and RJ today. Need the size.RJ?
I think he can be the guy.
It's looking sorta like this right now.......
8-3 Non-conference (Still need to win next 3, including Miznoz)
14-6 Conference (too optimistic?; 12-6 rest of the way)
2-1 BTT
-----
24-10 Overall
#4 Seed in NCAA Tournament
I'd take that hoping we have a fully healthy team going into the tourney. We won't have the continuity that some other teams have but I would bet we could at the least repeat our tournament performance from last year and maybe exceed depending on matchups. It's looking sorta like this right now.......

Accent on: If..... our point guard comes back healthy and hungry.I'd take that hoping we have a fully healthy team going into the tourney. Looking ahead to the B1G schedule..
Minnesota will probably be feeling themselves a lot by the time Illinois visits them on January 2nd.
It's always been weird to me how Dee's legend around here has diminished since he left. Usually it's the opposite. Assuming it's just because he didn't have a long pro career. Also, I think Trent Frazier is now better than Dee was.
He was on the hot seat after UM got bumped in the 1st round of the NCAA two years in a row after they had built up a roster and expectations were high. But he embraced it. I don't remember the quote, but when he was getting booed and blasted he basically said, yeah I deserve it, but they stuck with him and he had the thick skin to work through it. Turgeon really had his feelings hurt (and his family was hurt by the way he was treated - and hs younger kids) and made the decision he made. It is understandable. While there was some grumbling just before Williams retired, he could have coached for as long as he wanted. One of the things Turgeon really should have done was leaned on Williams, who has an office right there, and Turgeon just was not confident enough to bring him down to be a part of the structure of what he was doing. Okay, enough about Maryland, this is an Illini Board.Am I remembering wrong? I thought Williams was on the hot seat quite a bit prior to the NC. And perhaps toward the end.
Actually better as we were 1-1 in the BIG.I think this year is not a waste: BU still has Phase II (B10 games + Tourney) AND Phase III (March Madness)
We are still in Phase I and we are where exactly where we were last year at this time: 7 - 3. We still have a few weeks to grind it out, until Phase II starts - the real serious part of the schedule (current part is "serious and probing")
100%. I will always maintain that while Deron Williams was the better basketball player, Dee Brown was the better college basketball player. For example, in 2004-2005 D-Will was worth 4.6 win shares. Dee's was worth 6.8! He was extremely efficient that season, shooting 61% from 2 and 43.4% from 3 (49.9% overall). He also averaged 1.7 stls a game for his career, which is pretty impressive. I think his legacy does suffer from his lack of an NBA track record, which is unfortunate. It's always been weird to me how Dee's legend around here has diminished since he left. Usually it's the opposite. Assuming it's just because he didn't have a long pro career.
As much as I love Trent, he's nowhere close to Dee. And that's not a knock on him. Dee was special. Go back and watch some of his games with fresh eyes. I would argue he has Trent in every meaningful category (again not knocking Trent). Dee was B1G PoY and Defensive PoY in the same season. I don't have time to look right now, but I'm guessing that's pretty rare.
Anyway, to bring things into this decade, TF is one of my all time favorites. Not just for his play on the court but the journey he's gone through. Really happy with the player he's become for us.
Dee won the friggin' Cousy Award for the best point guard in college basketball. He finished third for the Wooden Award for best player in the game. I LOVE Trent, but what the heck are we talking about here. Also, I think Trent Frazier is now better than Dee was.
