Rod Perry is not going to be an easy guy to replace.

He’s been a Doug Kramer of that side of the ball. The fulcrum everything else is built around.
If Avery can lose 30 pounds and transfer those over to Newton, they could be pretty formidable in the middle. But I agree. Rod Perry was a heck of a pickup for Lovie's staff (I threw up in my mouth a little there).

Lovie was a failure, but gotta give credit where credit is due. Witherspoon was another great pickup. There were others, but not enough. Water under the dam.

Pretty encouraging recruiting by the new staff. Hopefully, they're just getting started.

Have we heard anything about East St Louis WR Keontez Lewis, transfer from UCLA?

I'm not sure if it's an indictment of Beason's play because he can't work out during visits (right?) and he hasn't played in a long time. Maybe he wants to go further South, maybe he feels a cultural connection with an HBCU, maybe they are providing guarantees for playing time that others are not.

Keep in mind is that players entering the portal are going to be experiencing the most difficult environment ever for transfer athletes. Everyone is "overweight" on rostered players and scholarship allotments. If you enter the portal and have limited tape for a team that either (1) doesn't have an all-conference player blocking your playing time or (2) you play for a program that isn't held in high regard, you are likely to make a serious stumble down the football program pecking order. There will be transfers that normally would have landed at a MAC school a couple years ago that will end up at DII programs or will quit altogether this spring/summer.
Alabama A&M is a Div I school that plays in the SWAC. Historically, a great producer of NFL talent. Deon Sanders and Eddie George are a couple of Head Coaches in the conference.

This reminds me of the Snider basketball recruitment from a few years back. I’m going to guess Jones got an offer from Auburn.
