Based upon everything I'm seeing/reading, I believe we still have a 20-30% shot at getting the nod.

If I correctly interpret BB's last tweet on the topic, he's questioning the source who tells Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic that Rutgers is accepting the invitation.

After Lasagna and Lovie's indifference, it's so great to have coaches in both sports embrace a confident, winning, "let's play" mindset. Say what you want about going, but we have a freaking coach now that says "Bring It On" and engages on Twitter to bring attention to the team. That's awesome and it matters to recruits and players. Underwood is dancing with the trophy and Bielema is mixing it up with sources. What a great night to be an Illini! 4 years ago hoops had just lost to New Mexico state and Fitzy beat us 42-7. We're on the cusp of 2 sport competitiveness we havent had since the 80s

Each day of indecision makes preparation that much harder. I suspect BB is preparing as we speak, just in case.

NCAA meets today. We should know today.

They are expected to consider the month long lay off for the players, irrespective of the college in consideration.

I'm not disagreeing with what you wrote, but why then do they allow all-star games, like the Senior Bowl?

Presumably players going to all-star games whose college team did not get to a bowl have been working out since the end of their season in anticipation of being evaluated by NFL teams.

I thought that the NCAA was indifferent to all things Football Bowl related. Personally, I would much prefer to let the CFB people make any decision regarding this Bowl snafu. The NCAA knows how to do one thing: F**k Things UP. When the NCAA is a footnote in history, American Intercollegiate Sports will have the possibility of getting it right. Until that time we will all live in a sports universe controlled by a corrupt group of scumbags.

A couple of clips:

The NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee will meet Thursday and determine the policy for a bowl replacement opponent for Wake Forest among the 5-7 teams

Sources said the oversight committee could defer to the Big Ten and the Gator Bowl about which team replaces Texas A&M

There is more to this story. Perhaps some more will unfold.

To me - at the moment - it looks like how much power play UoI or Rutgers have will come into play. But, that is just my feel from what I have read so far.

FWIW

If there is an issue "deferred to the Big Ten", then Kevin Warren is likely hard at work trying to figure out how to make sure that this situation is resolved with the best result for tOSU, Michigan and PediU.

One has to have priorities, man.

Illinois doing what it can to make a case..

Regardless of the outcome, I’m proud the Illini stepped up aggressively the minute the news broke.

Oh, I am sure of that too. (Aside: In short what you are saying is that IL FB has arrived on the big-boy play ground - which is good. Nope, great.)

However, I am equally sure that there is a guy named Rashid Khan, an IL alum, owner of the resident NFL team in Jacksonville FL, who has more than the ears of the Jacksonville FL based Gator Bowl folks too.

If so - then a weaker RU better serves the Eastern Titans - advantage Illini!

This. Bielema has shown since he got here that he’s willing to put in a great effort to benefit the football program in any way he can. That’s very very refreshing, and it makes me proud that he’s my coach.

Also, every second from now until next Friday matters. How have they not made a decision yet??

Most guys prepare the whole time for the all-star games. Some even drop out of school so that there is no finals prep required. This is entirely different than that. A guy, in the team situation is getting some rest, letting his legs recover, making sure his schoolwork is accomplished and making sure his mental state is relaxed and looking to winter conditioning in January. There are very few that would be physically prepared to play a real game in a week unless they had been doing the intense workouts that come with qualifying for a bowl.

From AP News, it looks more and more likely it will be Rutgers. Interesting note is the NCAA football oversight committee will allow the bowl to be moved as late as Jan. 10th if time is needed for teams to prepare for the game.
