Need a Kofi replacement
While first off the man in simply impossible to replace and is basically the closest thing in college to Shaq since the Diesel himself... Dianja is going to have a great chance to play next year. If Fletch can get him into shape, he's seriously skilled as hell and has great size. Skillset reminds me of Trevion Williams. Add the fact that he should be able to practice against Kofi starting in January and I think there's a good chance he's ready to play a lot next year.

Hoping for health and getting in shape this spring.

I literally NEVER think about Miller until someone on here brings him up. And then the thought is gone immediately afterwards. It's like he was never here.

Yup, we just need two generational shooters to pair him with and we're set.
No question that Plummer and Grandison form the most efficient perimeter shooting duo in Illini history. Add in Trent coming into his own and Kofi shooing twos at a 60+% rate, and I don't know - without doing hours of lookup - if the Illini or any team have had a better shooting season (that is to date of course in a small sample size). Then throw in DFW along with the three frosh and ....well....trying to beat this Illini team will only get harder and harder. Then think about BU lauding Hutch as the best shooter of the bunch. Crazy!!

What is even more mind-boggling is how they can be so good at the premier skill of the game and still avg. around 18 turnovers. Truly unique group.

The ceiling of this team is just so insanely promising. This was what I looked like when I was reading your post

IMO the sky is the limit for our Illini team (its a long season after all) but I am confident Coach Underwood will keep our team locked in. The possibilities are endless. I'm just gonna root hard for the Fighting Illini every game and enjoy the ride!

Yep, so much fun to watch the perimeter game we have going. Slim/Fonz/Trent combined are averaging 19 threes per game. Only thing I can remember close was '89 with Anderson/Gill/Battle trio and we all know what they did!! Turnovers at 15.3 are a little concerning but part of the fast pace. Throw in the elite center and this team could go a long way. BTW, DMW and the Hawk are quietly moving up the Torvik BIG player rankings.
Go Illini!!

We better figure it out because the Big10 is starting soon and I believe we will see a lot of pressing. Trending up lately.

On turnovers....seems like alot of them are sloppy rather than fast pace...we have slowly cleaned that up, but still annoying.

We've looked our best with multiple quick passes in half court with a big touching ball in sequence.

Seems we've scrapped the "shoot in 7 seconds rule" .

..perhaps we need to replace that with "get set in half court, make 5 passes in 7 seconds for an open shot" rule

Need a Kofi replacement
And LSU is still looking for a Shaq replacement too. Quite certain a talent like Kofi is generational (at best).

But yes, I agree, we still need a big man in the middle (perhaps a lesser talent, but someone with NCAA championship potential and skills similar to Scott May, James Worthy, Pervis Ellison, Danny Manning, Terry Mills, Dean Garrett.)

Not going to find another Kofi but an Augustine should be a possibility, just haven’t seen one mentioned as recruiting possibilities. Dain seems like a possibility but any of the video I’ve seen shows him standing and looking on defense and not a high energy guy. They must think they can change that but tougher to teach energy than skills. Kudos to their development program if they can. Other replacement pieces are on deck but not at short term equivalence.

2004-5 team shot .392 from three and made 8.8 per game. 1988-89 .425 but 3.8 per game.
Current team is .397 and 10.5. But still early in season. Going to be tough to replace that.

I was a bit worried when Gentry left thinking that he was the brains behind our X's and O's like an offensive coordinator. But clearly, whoever has taken over the role, whether an assistant or BU himself, has figured something out that is working.

My thoughts exactly.

Boswell is trying to schedule an OV to Michigan. This recruitment, unfortunately, has a long way to go and he is probably a long shot for us.

As would be the case with any top 15 player in his class, no? For the first time since Self was here I feel like recruiting will be fine. The hardest part for Underwood was selling recruits like Kofi and Ayo on a vision. We now have proof of concept with our run the last two years (and spilling into this one).

Now that JJ Taylor has moved to CA, DaiDai Ames/Kenwood has become the go to guy. He has blown up big time and is now the #51/247 composite '023 player. He visited C/U in October. So a long way to go for the 3 PG's....Boswell/Ames/Fears.
