Dainja has a bit of "girth," he is 6'9" and weighs 260.
I've seen 270 lbs, but regardless, he's got plenty of girth. As well as great back to the basket skills. He just has to be healthy and in shape (wish that was so easy!).

We need Dee Brown 3.0. In my eyes, Trent has been 2.0.
- loyal to program
- stood up to defend the program
- gets the crowd excited
- plays with passion
- helps recruit
- gets younger players to buy-in
- list goes on and on

Not sure if, or who we currently have that fits this mold. It's easy to see when it's there, however.

I believe you just described Ayo Dosunmu.

Is he happy here?
No one on this board can answer that. Not even the coaching staff. I'm guessing Brad would have said Adam Miller was happy last year and he left. No one knows. You can only hope. Based on his support on the bench, I would guess he is.

Can’t compare with Kofi as probably be 240 with same % of body fat. Just not many players like Kofi and agree that we are not going to see an equivalent replace him. Probably more likely to be 2 fours ala Hawk.

That and the guys here like Kofi and RJ are really keeping him involved. Hope he sticks around. He’s such a great talent.

Given the condition of the program when he got here, I would say Ayo’s impact is greater than Dee’s.

You could make a good case. Dee and Ayo both generated a lot of national attention, but media was more consolidated when Dee was here, and that magical season at #1 was THE story of the season after dismantling the previous #1 Wake. I don't think Ayo can match that despite the way he closed out games and got his team to a #1 seed. OTOH, Ayo coming here totally changed the direction of the program, and his rise led to the program's resurgence. Hard to name another player that pulled the program up so dramatically during his development here.

Both have provided a ton of great memories for fans.

Don't disagree with anything you said but Ayo never got out of the first weekend; Dee had 4 tourney visits (Rd2, S16, Champ Game, Rd2), 2 BTT championship, 2 B1G regular season championships, and 114 wins. Dee got to join a team that went 26-9 (11-5) whereas Ayo joined a 14-18 (4-14) team. If they were given the same situations I think Ayo would have been right there with Dee in terms of accomplishments

Dee came into a much more talented team and didn't really create recruiting momentum. Ayo arguably did.

Either way we're blessed to not have to choose and count them both as alumni.

So, my takeaway from this thread is that we need to recruit generational and program-defining talent. To that, I must say, I don't necessarily disagree. I just, you know, think that's easier said than done. Whether our recruits become Cousey Award winners and/or All-Americans will always be hard to predict. I think the coaching staff has the right idea. Bring in plus athletes and shooters that fit the system. That way, when we either bring in a top guy or, more likely, one of our guys matures into a star, we're primed to take full advantage of it.

IIRC, Dee was instrumental in bringing in both Augustine and Deron. I’m not going to try to compare Dee and Ayo. They both did great things for Illinois and we would not be where we are today without either one of them imo.
