Are Dee, Deron, and Ayo getting recruited again?

If there's some big recruiting news we're missing please do enlighten us. Otherwise, I don't see how complaining about the posts of others is any more on-topic than anything else on here. For every off-topic post, there's at least one complaint about said post, which is almost universally less interesting than the original off-topic post. If things get really off the rails, I'm sure Dan will rein us back in.

On the recruiting end, I haven't seen anything on Jalen Hooks on here in a while. Is he off our radar or lower priority, now that we have Rodgers coming in?

I feel like Underwood and the team are basically destined to have a transfer as the transition post Kofi. Kofi's dominance combined with the NBA not really being made for him just makes it an odd decision especially with NIL on the table now. There is a decent chance playing at UofI is Kofi's highest expected income

We need Dee Brown 3.0. In my eyes, Trent has been 2.0.
- loyal to program
- stood up to defend the program
- gets the crowd excited
- plays with passion
- helps recruit
- gets younger players to buy-in
- list goes on and on

Not sure if, or who we currently have that fits this mold. It's easy to see when it's there, however.
Keep an eye on Podz and/or Goode. Both are gritty, physical, play with an edge and show leadership. May not be All Americans like Dee but they'll both have great Illinois careers.

This is an upperclassman team. Kofi Jr, Plummer SR, Williams 5th yr SR, Frazier 5th yr SR, Plummer SR Grandison SR
Exception is Curbelo Soph

It bodes well for NCAA tourney.

However next year will an almost total reboot

Curbelo JR
Dainja FR/Payne JR
Hawkins JR
Goode/Melendez/Pod Soph
Harris/Epps/Rodgers

So, been thinking a bit. In his 5 years, BU has built some really nice teams. He’s mixed youth and experience well, and has found great role players. In particular, he seems adept and finding great, under the radar glue guys (Feliz, DaMonte, Grandison, etc.).

However, I think the biggest reason we’ve been competing for BT titles/top seeds is we’ve had 2 AAs (Ayo, Kofi). And, while I really like the 21 and 22 classes and think it’s chalk full of tough, scrappy players, I’m not sure who our stars will be after this year. If Belo sticks around he is one, although if he comes back at the level I think he’s capable of even for 2 months, I think he leaves. Could Coleman turn into a star? Melendez? Maybe Epps? And I do think Harris is the sleeper of the 23 class. Any thoughts?

Not expecting anyone to be an AA but will need at least 1-2 all BIG players if we want to continue to compete at a high level.

Thanks and happy new year!
I think we take a step back next year which is why we need Belo to get healthy and go all in this year!

I think if Grandison stays (which he can), then we will be just fine. Coleman and Dainja will be our front court. The guards we have coming in are really good, Epps is the REAL deal. I hope Kofi stays but that is just wishful thinking at this point.

I still think that’s an easy tournament team. Even not knowing what Danija is.

I remember when we rebooted Dee's freshman year. Sr Cook became an All American and we surrounded him with Deron (fr) , Dee (fr), Luther (soph) Roger (soph) and James (fr).

We lost Frankie, Archibald to NBA from 26-7 Co B10 champ team.

If he goes overseas, Kofi will be getting paid to play basketball as well as any sort of promotional/marketing/NLI-esque endeavor he wants to get involved with. Those branding opportunities may be less lucrative outside the states, but I imagine he could still make some money.

I’m guessing those two combined will be more than only getting money from NLI at Illinois.

Plus he will then be honing his craft full time and not going to school. (Maybe he’s on track to graduate early anyway? Or will finish up via online courses)

Hopefully someone in his camp can find the right connections and lay out the best projected option for him.

I’d love for it to be “stay at Illinois for one more year” but I’m not holding my breath.

Honestly it’s he’s to say. The cool thing is Kofi is gonna have a choice to keep making top money here and probably end up with every record we have if he plays one more year. He’s in a good spot. Lol

If Kofi doesn't get a look from the NBA again this year...he will almost assuredly make 7 figures in the Euroleague, Spain, or Turkey.

There's only one scenario I can see him returning for a 4th season....and I don't even want to think about it, much less mention it.

I hope he rides out of the AH this year underneath his jersey and a FF banner hanging from the rafters....on a giant black steed, wearing a crown embedded with Blue Sapphires and Spessartite Garnet gemstones, with his massive arms wrapped around gold and silver hardware...with a roar that shatters the windows in trailer parks across Iowa and Indiana.

Can Kofi make more diñero here with NLI or in Europe?
Kind of assumed that most or all of the non-US players are here on international student visas. If so, there are some t's and c's about earning money that might make it difficult for international players to benefit much from the NIL rules. Definitely swimming outside my lane but maybe somebody on here can shed some light?
