Easy to discern that their fans are not willing to wager on a 7-6 team. And the ones addicted to gambling see far bigger problems than an 8 pt. head start can solve. You may see that come back down late today, but Wolvs could be saying "no mas" by halftime. What is scary for Illini fans is their talent level which can rear its head at any time and explode. Illini need to be ready for a 40 min. slugfest...and if Mich. guys tire of the effort...take the win.
Fans don't move betting lines. That would be professional bettors who do that.

MGoBlog finally posted a men's basketball item after nearly three weeks. Preview of Illinois game. More fear (grounded in reality) than snark. They expect the Illini to win:

"Anyway, for the first time in a long time Michigan basketball enters a game and I'm expecting them to get blasted."

Please note rankings used: KenPom ;) (Sorry)

Hope williams is only guarding Houstan on a switch otherwise wouldn’t be surprised if houstan put up mcgowens numbers up
Not sure I get this take. Houstan is nowhere near the quick twitch athlete McGowens is and plays SF/PF. Damonte usually makes life hell for those types of assignments because he’s typically quicker and has the length and strength to hang.

I predict they hide Plummer on their transfer PG and Trent makes Eli Brooks uncomfortable all game. Damonte on Houstan, Slim on Diabate (with a heavy dose of Coleman), Kofi on his son.

I haven't watched any Michigan games this year so I went to barttorvik.com to try to find out why they are so inconsistent. It seems to all boil down to Caleb Houstan. His 7 best games (according to the efficiency stats) have all been wins. His 6 worst games have all been losses. The media has been talking about his shooting woes, but he hasn't been consistently bad. It's more like, game to game, he is either red hot or can't hit the broad side of a barn. So to me that is one of 3 keys to the game.

1) Don't let Houstan get going. That probably means sticking Damonte on him to start. Hopefully Damonte can get in the freshman's head. But it will probably be a team effort with Hawkins and Grandison also shutting him down.

2) Kofi needs to play smart defensively. I know he will want to lock down Dickinson, and I hope he does. But sometimes that means being over aggressive and picking up silly fouls. It's more important for Kofi to stay on the court. I'm okay with Kofi giving up 25 to Dickinson, because if Kofi stays on the court he will get that 25 or more back on the other end. But it could be trouble if Dickinson gets 25 while Kofi sits on the bench in foul trouble for half the game.

3) Need the crowd to be loud! I'm a little nervous about the home court advantage because of the snow coming plus having no Krush. Hopefully the snow doesn't keep people away.
Agree with all of this especially #2. It's like when we played Iowa last year. You knew Garza was going to get his points, but we couldn't have it happening without Kofi on the floor getting his. But we stopped anyone else from having big games. It's essential he stays out there. And if Dickinson scores 25, so be it. Just can't let other players go off.

On our way from Rockford to Champaign. Misty and foggy, but no snow yet. We’re coming, hell or high water. We hate scUM and its coach. I don’t care who guards who or who scores the points of if we win by one point. Just WIN, baby. :illinois:-L-L

Not a bad breakdown of our team, though I have little idea of what a lot of these #'s and %'s mean, or if they're even relevant to scouting a team.

Not giving trent a "super defender" is criminal.
Agreed. Well, just as AP voters don't watch many of the teams for whom they vote (or for whom they fail to vote) the MGoBlog guys have their holes in analyzing opponents. I'm fairly impressed, however, with the relative thoroughness of their scouting. They apparently watch a heck of a lot more ball than I did at their ages!

I will actually give credit that the "Bo Ryan Index" for each coach is simply hilarious

"Last year, Brian created the Bo Ryan Index:

THE BO RYAN INDEX. Take the first three rows of Google Image Search and calculate in what percentage of those shots is the coach looking enraged, incredulous, furious, or otherwise unpleasant to referees or his team. Bo Ryan's Bo Ryan Index: 65%, and I think some of the misses could be sarcastic smiling.

3 hours and 51 minutes till Brian B. on the radio pre-game .......wow , time sure is whizzing by , ain't it ?

lol. That's classic. BTW, Fran McCaffery gets 50%. So relatively placid compared with Bo.

[EDIT: I scrolled further down. Bill Carmody scored a zero on the Bo Ryan Index. But I loved:

THE BILL CARMODY INDEX: how many times on Google Image Search does your coach make a gesture of helplessness—for instance palms-up pleading or facepalming? Bill Carmody's BCI: 30%.]

Love the CBD and college hoops combination. The game slows down for me. A 2 hour game seems to last about 3 hours.

That's awesome, but shouldn't that be normalized? So if Bo Ryan scored a raw 65% on the Bo Ryan test, then a 65% is the Bo Ryan index of 1. That would give Underwood a Bo Ryan Index of 1.15.

Maybe we should do this with Fran. The Francon Index. It's superior to the Bo Ryan Index.

BU normalized to Fran is 1.4.

I wonder what BU would score compared with Jud Heathcote or Gene Keady? Those are my benchmarks for perpetually unhappy/enraged/constipated coaches.

Then we could do a Crean index based on Google images that radiate predatory creepiness.

Rogue's gallery of most disliked jerks of opposing Big Ten teams. No. 1 (Davison- Wisc.), No. 2 (Dickinson- Mich), No. 3 (Mulcahy- Rutgers) And recently added (Tominaga- Neb)
I was just thinking about the guy from Nebraska and couldn't remember his name. Agreed, he is a welcome new member of the DJ club!

I had a thought after someone on here mentioned a rumor that UM COULD have played Purdue.

And while this thought is laced with cynicism/conspiracy, I don’t put it past Michigan to pull it off.

Is there a way that UM could tell the B1G “we can’t play due to COVID tests” but not actually provide the players/coaches that are out due to health/privacy issues? If the B1G doesn’t require medical documentation of the individual tests, I’m very much convinced UM saw how the season was going and took an unregulated tactical pause.

Just like in the midst of a game, when your team is struggling and the other team is on a run, you take a timeout to get your team right.

If UM comes out tonight at full strength and running a different/improved offense with the cohesiveness of a team practicing for a week unencumbered by league games/travel, then I will 100% believe my own conspiracy theory.

They are trying to pick a winnable game to come back and at Illinois (with the rivalry that’s been created) is the best option.

I’ll take my tinfoil hat off now…though I don’t think I’m completely wrong. 😳

Realistically, I want all the top teams to keep losing because I really want to see Trent and DMW "officialy" win the regular season title.

But in my own fantasy world, I would love to see an undefeated MSU come in to town in 11 days to play an undefeated Illinois. SFC would literally be up for grabs.
I'll be at that game
