A thread should be started for the Feb. 10th game at this point, but I really like Gillis. He plays hard and does a lot of glue guy things.

If any of you are thinking of going to WL on the 10th, the cheapest lower bowl ticket on SH is around $200. Tickets probably not going to do anything but go up.

In my experience, tickets start pretty lofty, get loftier, then start to drop the week of the game. The tickets I bought yesterday were $29. They were first listed at $250 two weeks ago. That said, I saw some seats priced at $3,000 that jumped to $10,000 the day of the game, so what do I know?

Sounds like a decent showing is coming from Illini Nation out east!

Really hope we waste no time in pummeling them. We are as good as anyone in this conference, even though we just lost to Purdue. Thankfully, we have a lead over them - and everyone - in the standings. Let’s keep it!

Not to nitpick, FOTN, 'cause I love your posts, but I believe that they're better than everyone else in the conference right now... when they don't give up 17-2 runs on their own floor. 🤕 And they were better than everyone else even before Papi suited up and was a catalyst yesterday with almost no preparation. Once he gets up to speed, boy howdy!

The boys are indeed better than everyone else and need to project that swagger and back it up on the court. Am confident they will. Yesterday was a speed bump. I see no reason why they can't hang a regular season title banner, which, as we all know, is a difficult achievement.

Replaced my morning coffee today with some Orange Crush

We need to thump Maryland...I live here and the fans, as has been stated...are obnoxious. Talk about living in the past...that one Gary Williams title makes them believe they are among the elite in CBB. I know...it's one more than we have...but they need to be humbled. And the nut-sacker needs to be taught a very hard lesson by Kofi.

I feel very strongly about this. Will I take a 1 point win? Yes. But I hope we dominate them and prove we belong at the top of the conference.

Illini Nation gave Curbelo the love he deserves yesterday.
No doubt that Curbelo and his magic are back.

Last night I reviewed some of the Marquette post game board and was reminded how distasteful many comments were regarding Belo as a person.
We as “adults” need to act like adults. This is a game, and the radically emotional and personal takes have no value.
We should be better. These are young men playing a game, doing what none of us has the ability to do.
Vent the personal stuff to your spouse.

Most of Illini Nation knew Belo would be back to being Belo.
We all saw yesterday the impact of Belo.
Enjoy the ride watching the maestro again.

It isn't possible for me to endorse this post, from my esteemed Bethesda neighbor, more vigorously. I want scorched earth:

The frustrating part about Belo is how dialed in he is about being an Illini and how some people post before they think , at least that's what i hope , b/c if they really think Belo is as bad as they post..........wow....is all I can say......

Pundits nationwide and inside the B1G gave him glowing adjectives before the season started and hold him in high esteem in college BB......
Then he got hurt and his own fans started to poop poop his desire and ability......

I think i will take a vacation from the board for a while or at least limit my posts as this board has turned sour and dour more than it should........I was being totally honest in my post about the number of posters i put on ignore after the purdont game.....I know it probably doesn't matter as quite a few have me on their ignore list , but I come here every day to converse and share Illini sports.........Seems like it is becoming a lot more personal about the teams and even the posters......

.One poster stated yesterday that another poster needed to "" shut up , grow up and stop being so dumb ""...
Thats not what I come here for ........You can get that in your daily life pretty easily , but this board should be a family .....and families don't always agree but most families don't attack the jugular like here now........Makes me wonder how many trolls are amongst us.......

JMHO and in no way singling out anyone..

BBV played his heart out yesterday, but to think he held his own is a stretch. The Illini didn't give up, but without Kofi, the middle was wide open for the Purdue guards to attack the paint. We were missing our shot blocker and inside presence. When they weren't doing attacking with their guards, they were running the offense through the middle. That said, yesterday proved to the doubters is the Illini are an elite team. We have Friday to figure out a rotation with Belo and (hopefully) a full game of Kofi. This team is scary good. (I'm not saying BBV isn't solid. But to think he should play more takes minutes from Kofi, which is laughable.)
I don't think BBV is near the same level nor should he take minutes from Kofi. But when Kofi is gassed or in foul trouble and needs to sit out, I like the way BBV guards bigs and fights for rebounds and loose balls. Any points he scores are a bonus. Omar killed our momentum in the first half yesterday by letting Purdue provoke him. Not good.

Painter is the exception, not the rule. And keep in mind he's been very successful at Purdue, but in 16 seasons has yet to make the Final Four.

Also, you have to play to your strengths. Painter's strength is finding and developing talented but undervalued players, particularly bigs. BU is good at that, but not on Painter's level. He is a better recruiter than Painter though (to be fair, can't be easy to recruit to West Lafayette).
Well in more detail, some were saying when we passed on Fears that we won't get "over the hump" without a Boswell or equally talented player. I completely disagree. I think coach Underwood has the coaching chops to win with stacked classes of players from 50-150 range. Sure it is GREAT to have Ayo, Kofi, JJ Taylor talent, that is a given. I think the players we have going forward will compete for B10 titles. Payne, Hawkins, Dainja, Goode, Melendez, Podz, Belo and possibly Grandison and our 3 signed freshmen are gonna be solid. Add a transfer big, not sure if BBV will be back as well. Another year in the weight room and Lieb may be counted on for some minutes off the bench.

Pru…stay the coarse and ignore those that you choose.
I, and I’m sure many others, enjoy your contributions…..as odd as they are at times!!!
But what always comes through, brother, is your love and passion for the O&B.

Love watching The Maestro :) I said yesterday that just seeing Curbelo out there playing made my day, win or lose. Seeing Verdonk being impactful was topping on the cupcake. I'm actually more excited than ever after this loss. That doesn't happen often.

I know it bro........I'm setting here right now letting a thick ribeye marinate , listening to my Summer Walker playlist on Spotify with a bowl loaded and a
Jim Beam / lemon lime drink ready to consume.......that helps for a while , but it seems like the slant of this board is really getting personal as I stated above and I would rather spend more time with my NL's than read that here....

Loyalty is and has been a big part of my life for many years now and it is the first window I open up every day..........But the viciousness has to stop.....The vitriol directed about the team and the posters who fully support the program makes the time I spend here less rewarding than before.......Everyone should know my personality by now and what is going on here now isn't my cup of tea........

I have not been feeling up to par for the last 5-7 days , but I still am of sound mind and body enough to see the direction here is not what it should be with such a great team we have at our beloved institution...................

I truly think this season could be very special , especially with Belo back playing .......We have a roster built for extended play in the dance , and who knows , if we can get a favorable path , this might be another Final Four and even better.....

I hope all here can come together and fully support the Illini as this season continues , but doubt is slowly creeping in .....just read some past posts as the poster I quoted did, and you should see an underbelly of criticism that is so unwarranted and not deserved ......

I’m always surprised how much that one title and those 2-3 years of being really good carry Maryland’s reputation historically … I’d love a title of our own, so props to them and all, but we have at least as good of an overall history:

MARYLAND
1 National Title, 2 Final Fours
4 Elite Eights, 14 Sweet Sixteens
1 #1 Seed, 12 Top 4 Seeds
28 NCAAT Appearances
.603 All-Time Winning Pctg.
24 AP Top 25 Finishes
433 Weeks in AP Top 25
1 30-Win Season, 11 25-Wins, 30 20-Wins

ILLINOIS
0 National Titles, 5 Final Fours
9 Elite Eights, 13 Sweet Sixteens
4 #1 Seeds, 14 Top 4 Seeds
31 NCAAT Appearances
.641 All-Time Winning Pctg.
28 AP Top 25 Finishes
474 Weeks in AP Top 25
2 30-Win Seasons, 9 25-Wins, 34 20-Wins

Bbv was great against Purdue but would rather not see him for the next 4-5 games
The only reason for him to play more means something didn’t go as planned (fouls or injury)

I think a lot of this is due to Maryland being an ESPN darling school and having some solid teams in the late 90's/early 2000's during the height of ESPN's relevancy.

Not to keep picking on Bardo because he gets more criticism from us than he deserves, but this is one of my frustrations with him. Other schools seem to benefit from having alumni in national media. Granted Bardo isn't SVP. But I don't think he's given our profile much lift.

Andy Katz on the other hand...get this man an honorary doctorate already.

If the Belo we saw against Purdue is the Belo we will get all year long it changes our team dramatically. And very much for the better.
Assuming he is and remains healthy, I don't see why we'd expect anything else. He played like that to finish up a huge chunk of last year and our only evidence on him this year is while he was injured. All evidence suggests he will continue to play at a high level and be a major asset to the team.

And just as Ayo improved his 3 pt shot, there is no reason that Belo's 3 pt shooting will not improve. (Even Chester Frazier's shooting improved by his last year :) )

I don't watch ESPN often but I believe that SVP hasn't ever done play-by-play or color work. He's far removed from courtside so apparently feels free to be a Terp booster, rather like Mike Wilbon is for the 'Cats.

Bardo's got to maintain objectivity as long as he's on a network. Would be different if he were Brian's color man on radio. I like listening to Deon; he's appropriately critical of the Illini when necessary but obviously an alum and huge fan.

As for the Terps, yeah... East Coast exposure and ACC legacy. They've had some solid teams over the years, as FOTN's data in his post above indicate. But their fans have an inferiority complex b/c of years of living in the long shadows of Duke and NC. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the middle of a huge Terp section at MSG when the Illini beat them in Jan '19. Before the game they were talking trash about how they were going to cruise. Then Ayo and Tevian took them down hard. lol
