I do not understand the whole concussion thing. I had a severe concussion back in the 90’s where I played the entire game (softball league) where I could not remember anything. I went to the hospital that night and was released the next day and went back to work the next day. My job was a physical one so its not a desk job. So my question to anyone here, why is this a long term process? Are they being more cautious? I had zero issues after getting out of the hospital.

Did you hit your head or something? /s :ROFLMAO:

More research on CTE, concussion syndrome, and concussions in general has been done in the last 10-20 years than in the previous 100. It is meticulously monitored in all sports now. It's the primary reason NFL QB's can't be breathed on heavy anymore.

I think It's now primarily in the hands of doctors and tests.

Every instance is different. Pretty sure I had a concussion (in the 90’s) too and kept working that day at a lumber yard. Maybe not a good choice but I somehow survived. My son had a concussion from a skating accident and had headaches for two weeks with some difficulty concentrating. One of his friends couldn’t even stand normal daylight when he had one playing football. Can’t recall how long he was out, but brain injuries are a serious thing.

Long term issues, not letting it heal properly leads to serious consiquences later in life.

BU was in a great mood today, so I also believe the big guy is going to be cleared to play.

Contrast that to the pre-game presser he held last Thursday.

He was borderline pissed off lol. It was pretty evident something wasn’t right. Maybe we just read the BU mood tea leaves to get a better idea

I have no inside info, just a gut feeling we won’t see Kofi tomorrow. He was diagnosed with his concussion less than a week ago and I can’t imagine, in view of Curbelo’s saga, that the approach would be anything other than ultra conservative.

Interesting from the BU presser that he said that the defensive metrics are actually better with Payne and BBV than Kofi.

My sense is that we can most likely look at Curbelo's saga as the exception, not the rule. In most cases concussions, especially mild ones, resolve pretty quickly. Every so often symptoms linger, or even return after initially going away -- I think that says more about the nature of concussions (and how little we understand about them) than a specific policy of being "ultra-conservative" with everyone.

If Kofi is indeed out again, the timing will truly be awful … on the road against a “bad” team that has talent and owns us for some reason and at home vs. a “great” team that I think we can definitely beat. :/ Hope everyone is healthy and we can finally get that signature win!

In fact, Belo indicated that he has had previous concussions with little effect.

About 10-15% of concussions result in post concussion syndrome, which is what Curbelo was experiencing. That can take 3-12 months to clear.
If Kofi had a mild concussion, it’s well within the realm of possibility for him to be ready to go tomorrow. The vast majority of them heal in 7-10 days.

I'd need to see 15 hours of detailed analytics to be convinced of this. In my view, Kofi's massive defensive presence in the paint is tied for the #1 reason BU has had so much success these past three seasons.......with Ayo being the other significant factor.

The number #3 team in the nation in rebounding differential was out rebounded by the team ranked 163.
You’re not done playing defense until you get the rebound.
Kofi is enormous for our defense in many ways.

Not necessarily true. Nick Bosa of the 49ers suffered a concussion in the first round of the playoffs and was back on the field the next week. His concussion was arguably worse. Head went straight into a knee and neck twisted.

Gabe Brown is my biggest fear for tomorrow's matchup. Then Malik Hall. I think CoHawk will need to have an excellent defensive game. Izzo said if Kofi plays they will need to "block and tackle" him like in football, so no surprise that this is going to be a foul-fest. Their 3pt defense is excellent, which may nullify some of our marksmen. Curbelo hasn't practiced. Maybe they will have a "let down" after the Wisky game like we had after Purdue??? So I'll give 2 scores:

Without Kofi:
Illini: 63
Sparty: 79

With Kofi:
Illini: 74
Sparty: 72
