Gabe Brown is my biggest fear for tomorrow's matchup. Then Malik Hall. I think CoHawk will need to have an excellent defensive game. Izzo said if Kofi plays they will need to "block and tackle" him like in football, so no surprise that this is going to be a foul-fest. Their 3pt defense is excellent, which may nullify some of our marksmen. Curbelo hasn't practiced. Maybe they will have a "let down" after the Wisky game like we had after Purdue??? So I'll give 2 scores:

Without Kofi:
Illini: 63
Sparty: 79

With Kofi:
Illini: 74
Sparty: 72

I'm worried about Christie. He is due for a career game and you know what happens when someone is due versus us...

Coleman needs to play way more... preferably most of the game! Him and Omar need to be on the floor most of the game! And play the freshman more! They are more than capable. This team is too deep to run us so thin with the small core underwood has been using! These guys need experience for next year!

What about a rumor of Izzo retiring? Coach K finally is, and Izzo must be nearly the same age. Any recruits thinking about going there can't be sure who's going to end up coaching them.
Good point. Izzo isn't getting any younger. He is probably going to retire soon (he seems burnt out imo)

I hope Coach Underwood dominates the Big Ten in recruiting for years to come.

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois basketball was without star Kofi Cockburn, and had an uncharacteristic performance.
Without the star big man, the Illini lost by 15 to a Maryland team that was tied for last in the Big Ten before the contest. The defense failed to get stops while the offense went cold down the stretch.
“We had no fight,” coach Brad Underwood said. “Over my damn, dead body will that happen again.”

That puts Illinois on a two-game losing skid after a 6-0 start in conference play. It also gives the Illini a bad loss on its resume that still lacks a win over a ranked opponent after close home losses to No. 4 Purdue and No. 3 Arizona. No. 24 Illinois will get a chance to put an end to both of those streaks when it hosts No. 10 Michigan State on Tuesday at the State Farm Center.

I like our chances WITH Kofi..........
WITHOUT Kofi we will get killed in the paint........Rocket Mort-gaggers have too many thugs to unleash in the paint if Kofi sits............I still don't think the gaggers are a top ten team but we need to get this win to keep our title hopes alive.....

WITH Kofi...................

Illini 74
gaggers 68

WITHOUT Kofi................

gaggers 70
Illini 62

GO ILLINI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the math is simple: if Kofi plays we stand a good chance to win. If he does not, we have a much much lower chance.
Sounds more like Philosophy than Math.....

Good recipe for a loss if CHawk and OPayne play most of this game. Not sure what you are seeing in their play to all of a sudden think that they are the answer

Most freshman get better by practicing and hitting the weights. You don't play freshman simply to play freshman. You play the guys who put you in the best position to win today. If we were rebuilding, and BU was playing seniors just to honor them for some reason, I'd feel differently. But this is a win-now roster.

Hawkins I do think should play more, most of the game is not correct but more yes. Payne I really have not seen much out of him at all. He should have had an effect on the MD game and he really just has not got there yet. I hope he does, obviously great athlete, but we are so much better with Kofi on the floor vs Omar it is just silly.

I'm just not sure what to expect tonight....I could see this game being close or I could see this game being a 15-20 pt spread with either team winning....it just depends on so many factors....do we get the MSU team that lost to NW or do we get a top ten MSU team....do we get the Illini team that played really well against Arizona, Purdue....or do we get the Illini that lost to Cincy or Maryland....is everyone healthy.....how will the game be officiated.....I know this is true for most collegiate games this season....but I guess win or lose I would just like to see some consistent play from the Illini...I know that means getting everyone healthy and on the floor at the same time....but it's that time of the year....being consistent offensively and defensively needs to happen...jmo

Haven't played the Freshmen/Sophs enough this year...when in they played scared of BU's short leash (see CH's confidence)...wish he could figure this out would hate to see a couple of transfers
