Hutch is a prime example of difficulty in reversing a bad decision. People hate admitting they mad a bad decision (regardless if it is anybody's fault).

I think one reason for Brad's success is his wilingness to change.

Abandoning the super aggressive trapping defense he used sucessfully at SFA and Ok State when it did not work at Illinois

Hutch's injuries are not anybody's fault but it is time for him to move on from Illinois. Yes - he may do well somewhere else but the data indicates he is more likely to be injured and unable to stay on court next year. I hope I am wrong.

Mike Epstein (football) was good player for us that could not stay on the field. Sometimes it is just not meant to be.

2017 - 5 games
2018 - 8 games
2019 - 1 game
2020- 7 games
2021 - 2 games
How is Hutch a "bad decision?" There is no way to predict luck. If there were, we'd have a lot of lottery winners.

I think there's definitely a huge difference between a "bad decision" and a decision that doesn't work out. This one just hasn't worked out. He didn't have any injury issues in his first two years so there's nothing to suggest that this would have been expected.

It's pretty easy for me to trust BU on this one. If they see value in keeping him on the roster, great. If they want to move on, great.

From his perspective, it's not unlikely that he tries out for some professional opportunities. He's almost 24. If he truly has some professional ability, he might be best served starting that right now. If he's wowing insiders in practice, he may very well get some opportunities.

To be fair, w/o Belo we don't have many guys who can penetrate and create, ie. we're more of a jump shooting team. And yes, there's a difference between doing that at the H.S. level and college.
The original post had no mention of penetrating/creating vs jump shooting - only that a high school recruit (who I’m eager to see in O & B, btw) is way more aggressive than anyone on our current roster. That is an outrageous statement, considering who is on that roster and what they’ve accomplished while going to battle incredibly shorthanded.

Can you watch Kofi go into beast mode, DMW guard and block out players way taller and heavier than he is, Trent completely take the mojo out of the league’s best guards, Belo change the entire pace and flow of a ballgame, and say with a straight face that a high schooler is already WAY more aggressive in his play than ALL of them? Even our freshmen… lacking aggressiveness in their play? I don’t think so.

I’m all for debating and discussing legitimate strengths & weaknesses of coaching decisions and performance of individual players, but I continue to be nonplussed over the number of posters who go onto a forum called Illinois Loyalty to denigrate the team that draws all of us together.

Everyone talks about Epps spelling Curbelo next year. I really think Rodgers has the ability to handle some PG time next year. His vision and passing are outstanding. Handle looks like it could use a little tightening, but it is pretty good.
Definitely will need to be a group effort between Epps,Podz, potential transfer, Hutch(if he's back and can stay on the court). Probably would be tough to expect Rodgers to be ready for that role as a freshman but would be amazing if can definitely has the ability.

I know that sometimes these "all-star" games aren't truly as elite as the names imply. Not so this one. Here are the 247 rankings for the players. 8 out of the top 10 players. 17 out of the top 25. Rarified air for Epps.

If you're looking for an indication that he's underrated by the services, this invite would be a good one.

Bailey 2
George 4
Whitehead 5
Nick Smith 6
Livingston 7
Wallace 8
Walker 9
Ware 10
Miller 11
Phillips 12
Mitchell 13
Traore 15
Morris 19
Whitmore 20
Black 22
Dior Johnson 23
Rice 25
Reed 35
Howard 37
Lands 47
Kohler 65
Epps 71
Edwards 101

That is under the assumption that those who choose the roster for this game are better at rating players than the ratings services, which... maybe.

Does AZ have any NIL figures out? I think of them as more of a basketball than football school, but does the community care enough about basketball to generate big NIL numbers. AZ does always seem to have good crowds but overall PAC-12 seems pretty apathetic about basketball to me.
