Apparently, Culley got caught in a power struggle between the GM and owner. So the head coach gets fired. Makes sense. Successful businessmen want to play with their expensive toy and think they know more than men with years in the NFL.
That hasn’t been reported down here. GM said that Culley wasn’t interested in “the suggested ways to improve the team”. The old “philosophical differences” thing. But no one down here is reporting on a power struggle.

A strange rumor on Twitter is that Lovie is in the running for the Texans Job. I wonder if Miles would be promoted. 😂
This I doubt. If the Bears don’t hire him first, I’d say Flores will be hired, Watson’s legal issues will be “settled”, and he’ll end up playing with the HC he wantEd to all along without having to move cities.

Although, stranger things have happened than hiring LS as the HC…

Illinois State is a major step down from P5. Shows unfortunately that Brad made a mistake in hiring him. Still I am glad Brad recognized the mistake and moved to correct it.

5-7 year 1 of rebuild is not bad. With some luck/less injuries we could have been 7-5.

We ranked 112th of 130 div 1 schools 330 yards per game. Get to average #65 would have increased it to 403 yards per game. We were 115th scoring 20 ppg. Getting to average 29 ppg and we beat UTSA, MD, Purdue and Rutgers. Bowling at 9-3. Thats crazy

$800k/year salary sounds low especially considering Hawaii has the highest cost of living of the 50 states. Avg house price= 1 mil+.
A good number of years ago, the head coach at the time had to use a video camera he won in a raffle for use by the football program. The school is not well endowed. Furthermore, look at the travel the kids and staff have to do. They go to the mainland and have to stay at least a long week and hit two away games before heading home to get the most out of their time and money.

Looks like the Vikings are going to interview Harbaugh for the HC job. I don’t know if he is seriously interested or trying to better his contract situation at fichigan

I thought the Bears would interview him. Maybe he burned too many bridges. Word was he is interested in getting back to the NFL.

Well last year is basically his ceiling at MI, so if he wants to make the jump and exit gracefully, this may be his last chance for a long time. Stroud was a freshman, remember. OSU hill isn't getting easier to climb anytime soon.

Engram is UW new OC. I wonder how hard it is for a former player to switch teams. I guess if you pay me enough it would help

Not sure where to put this, but Caleb Williams in transferring to USC. Really the first time we've seen a coach QB transfer combo and is an interesting transfer portal wrinkle

I am glad that kids are free to attend any school they want.

However the system is out of kilter if by hiring a coach you get all his players to follow you. I would have been furious if Kofi had transferred to Kentucky. Recruits following the coach I understand.

I think Brent Venables is going to be a successful head coach at Oklahoma. Kirby Smart had no head coaching experience before taking over at GA but he was Alabama's defensive coordinator. Brent was Dabo's defensive coordinator at Clemson.

One thing that has come to light with the transfer portal is these kids could care less about the education.

I'd say "many of these kids". Some do and take advantage of the opportunity. It begins with parents who prioritize education who never let up.
I'd also like to point out many of these kids who are news worthy transfers aren't really concerned with the education because the NFL is the goal. After cashing in the NFL career if they want a world class education they can pay for it after.

Low level transfers who have no shot at the NFL go for the places they can either cash in on college success or an education that suits their interests. Illinois is a great school but there are only so many programs that are at the forefront of their sector and isn't as big of a draw as we like to think.
