I'd also like to point out many of these kids who are news worthy transfers aren't really concerned with the education because the NFL is the goal. After cashing in the NFL career if they want a world class education they can pay for it after.

Low level transfers who have no shot at the NFL go for the places they can either cash in on college success or an education that suits their interests. Illinois is a great school but there are only so many programs that are at the forefront of their sector and isn't as big of a draw as we like to think.
I agree with the points you make. I understand that the NFL or NBA is the dream of many of these kids who give their sport their undivided effort and attention. It pays off for a few. At the same time, I lament the fact that the vast majority coming from dire circumstances will not make the league and will return to the life cycle of hard knocks and lack of opportunity that results from a lack of the educational skills necessary to compete in the real world. I don't blame anyone other than the parents for letting this happen.

If I were a Michigan fan I would be very unhappy that Harbz is returning. That was their opportunity to avoid being stuck with an 8-10 win coach for life, like Iowa. Now they're stuck with him.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around the thought of being “stuck” with a 8-10 win coach. And I do understand what your saying about Michigan.

I think Iowa is at their ceiling as a program.

Bryan Harsin in deep doo-doo at Auburn. He has not yet earned the dreaded "vote of confidence" but hoo boy the knives are out.
That hire never made sense to me. Didn’t really think he’d fit well in the SEC, and not like he was any kind of coaching savant. I have several friends who live in northwest that didn’t exactly hold him in high esteem.

If Harsin is bought out at Auburn, he will walk away with enough money to retire comfortably. Also, what happened at Auburn won't be held against him because everyone knows that crazy people dictate what happens at the school. Look at some of the insane things that have happened with head coaches there. With what's happening to Harsin, any rational coach should think twice before taking the head football coaching job. But football coaches don't always think things through and their egos are large enough that most head coaches think they are as good as Saban.

Hmmm...I think the first bolded statement contradicts the second! ;)

Harsin was assistant for 2 years at Texas and HC for 1 year at Arkansas State. He had to know what he was getting into at Auburn/SEC.
Not sure about his coaching style but they accepted it at Boise State.

Link shows 18 Boise State players currently in NFL (I don't recognize any, surprised to see Illini had 16)

It is a big jump to SEC from mid major. Also big change Idaho to Alabama.

Am I wrong to think that Auburn realized they made a mistake, sniffed around to see if they could fire Harsin for cause (to avoid the nearly $40M that was referenced earlier), found they were going to have a problem getting away with that, and will now bring him back rather than pay him?
Things are going to be pretty, pretty awkward there next year. Kinda hoping Harsin has a great year this fall and then walks away for a better job. FYI, I think his buyout was "only" $18M...the $40M figure quoted included the roughly $21.5M they paid Malzahn to go away.

Things have gone squirrely there since they lost Tammy. (IYKYK)

I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today after last night's basketball loss so I'm just gonna throw this out there. It's f'ing gross that Grambling State hired Art Briles as their offensive coordinator. He's an absolute scumbag that doesn't deserve to ever coach again. The level of abuse that he both allowed and covered up under his watch is truly heinous. When someone messes up to that large of a degree, they don't deserve a second chance. He's old and rich. He can do quite literally anything else. Get him the heck away from college athletics.

52 girls raped by 30 different players was the first set of numbers I read about that situation.

It could have changed with more information coming out, but I will never forget seeing that.
