Purdue is one of the top 3-point shooting teams in the country. Gotta defend the line, keep 'em at 35% or less, to have a chance. We'll be able to score; need to defend better.
Yes, Underwood did use a 1-2-2 here. It was two years ago? I wanna say…Below is the final section from Brad Underwood's Video ($39.99) ))) ,entitled Brad Underwood Open Practice: Defense
Multiple Defenses
Add other defensive strategies to your defensive system, such as the Black 1-2-2 zone defense and varying styles of full court pressure. You'll learn how to implement the zone defense with two different breakdown drills for your front and backline defenders and also see it in action with 5-on-5 scrimmage.
Additionally, you'll see how to build the Double Fist full court man-to-man press with two practice drills to build up the ball pressure. Underwood shows how you can take this run and jump defense and convert it into a half-court trap.
Has he ever used this at U of I ? I don't know.
Misinterpreted your post the first time. You're saying that if we lose, Purdue is likely to get at least a share of the B1G, in which case our only option is to win outright because Purdue owns the head to heads. Good point.
I still like our chances to win outright though. Just finish 6-2. I don't even care where the losses come from.
Common take from me, but I think we should trust Brad’s expertise and understanding of what his players will execute most effectively on defense versus Purdue (as well as any other team).Shut off Stefanovic and and just try and play even with Ivey and their 5 rotation (Edey, Williams).
If we run Stefanovic off the three point line and turn up the ball denial....I don't think they can beat us. Kofi will be up for this one IMO.

What’s our record the past two years on the road in the BIG? Haven’t seen the zone and have been quite successful.
We can all wish that the beloved could roll out a 1-2-2 press and get 12 turnovers resulting in 18 points. Or a 2-3, or 1-3-1 and confuse the hell out of Matt Painter and his team, and all of this would all result in a blow out victory for us at Mackey.
But c’mon….there’s a reason why we are on this board and he’s on that bus.
If the boys execute Brad’s offensive and defensive game plan well, we win.
In Brad I trust.
Agree. Well said. Purdue doesn’t or hasn’t closed well. The good news is Purdue has a hard time finishing off games and they have lost games they never should lose. The bad news is they are the best offensive team in the country, their roster is the best in the B10 and they have the pieces to stifle Kofi. The Illini need to score points and lots of them to win this game. IMO, the offense or lack of offense from Williams, Grandison and Kofi will determine the outcome. The time for talk about how great this team is or can be is over. If Illinois is an elite team, a big ten title team, a final four caliber team this is a game they win. See you all in West Lafayette.
Would take my chances letting others shoot 3 as we quickly double edey. Can’t let stefanivich (sp) get open looks. I don’t believe he has been all that effective against us except for last game.Purdue is one of the top 3-point shooting teams in the country. Defense HAS to show up tomorrow!
Purdue has scored less than 70 pts in regulation in 5 games this season:
68 in Loss at Rutgers
66 in OT Win vs NC St
69 in Loss vs Wisconsin
69 in 2 OT Win at Illinois
65 in Loss at Indiana
In their other 18 games they are averaging 86.9 pts (82.1 pts in 8 other B1G games)
Yep; mine wasn't a good hot take. That spread makes sense. It roughly agrees with Torvik, though. I think it's fair.
Was that Andy Katz at the end saying he expects IL to play Purdue 4 times this season? I have thought the same.

My post wasn't/isn't intended as an indictment of BU and/or his record, nor how he game plans. It was simply an observation based on the last game with pU
Trevion is the assist guy. BBV did a good job on him but let some easy backdoor assists to Hunter. Edey is not the assist guy like Trevion. He telegraphs his moves. I'm certain BU is telling his doubling guys when to close. My post wasn't/isn't intended as an indictment of BU and/or his record, nor how he game plans. Agreed. Before the fouls even started, Edey had his way both offensively and defensively. The ease in which he scored over Kofi was alarming. Can Kofi be effective against a player his size or bigger(rare). Here's where not having that short jumper or any post moves outside of 3 feet hurts. Trying to bully Edey doesn't work. Interesting to see what BU comes up with.Imo, game comes down to whether Kofi can finish around/over Edey's length. Will be interesting to see what adjustments BU has made to try to get him in better positioning.
No idea, but I'd like to know where that script Illinois hoodie came from.Where’s Curbelo?View attachment 15106
