Just how bad is PSU? They're getting walloped by Nebby right now.
Tonight - very bad. Next Thursday - who knows?Just how bad is PSU? They're getting walloped by Nebby right now.
In a 3 way tie, do you know the next tiebreaker? If Purdue beats Wisconsin they would take 1 seed and both us and wisky would be 1-2Exactly. That's why in 2020 there were 3 co-champs (Wisky, MD, Michigan State).
Tiebreakers only matter for B1G Tournament seeding. If it's us and Wisky or Purdue, it goes to head-to-head (which we'd have over Wisky but not Purdue), then best record vs. next team in the standings. If it's a 3 way tie with Wisky and Purdue, then it goes to head-to-head among the 3 teams even if games played vs. each other isn't equal among all 3 (which us being 1-2 overall against the other 3 would hurt more than help).

So if I’m reading number 2 correct - record vs Purdue would favor wisky (1-1 vs 0-2 for us) so we would be 3 and them 2?Here's the full tiebreakers I could find. If I'm reading this right, it would go to best record against 4th place team (at this point Ohio State, which would favor Wisky):
B. Ties Involving more than Two Teams:
1) Results of head-to-head competition during the regular season.
2) If the remaining teams are still tied, then each tied team's record shall be compared to the team occupying the highest position in the final regular-season standings, continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.
- a. When comparing records against the tied teams, teams will be seeded based on winning percentage among the group, even if the number of games played against the team or group are unequal (i.e., 2-0 is better than 3-1, but 2-0 is not better than 1-0 or 0-0). If all teams among the group are separated based on winning percentage, all ties are broken. If winning percentage among the group for any tied teams is equal, move to step b with those specific tied teams only (e.g. if there is a four-team tie, one team is 4-0, another is 3-1 and the last two are 2-2 among the group, the two teams that are 2-2 move to step b and the teams that are 4-0 and 3-1 assume the next two available highest seeds).
Note: Teams can be separated from the top, middle or bottom.- b. If a team or teams are separated from the group based on step a, seeding for remaining teams among the group is not determined by head-to-head record vs. the remaining teams, but rather by taking all remaining teams to next tiebreaker.
3) Won-loss percentage of Division I opponents.
- a. When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to their own tiebreaking procedures), rather than the performance against the individual tied teams.
- b. When comparing records against a single team or group of teams, the higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against the team or group are unequal (i.e., 2-0 is better than 3-1, but 2-0 is not better than 1-0 or 0-0).
4) Coin toss conducted by Commissioner or designee.

No, it is W-L against the group. Purdue would be 3-1, while both Illinois and Wisconsin would be 1-2. So, Purdue first, then we compare Illinois and Wisconsin winning percentages against the 4th place team. If still tied, then 5th, etcSo if I’m reading number 2 correct - record vs Purdue would favor wisky (1-1 vs 0-2 for us) so we would be 3 and them 2?
Okay so the second set of tie breakers skips over the first “group” since we already did that as a group, and goes to the next one down. No, it is W-L against the group. I bet $5 somebody playing for PSU goes off on us for 31, but we win by 9Just how bad is PSU? They're getting walloped by Nebby right now.
Do you think that person will get all of PSU’s points?I bet $5 somebody playing for PSU goes off on us for 31, but we win by 9
The Nebby I watched play today could certainly beat Wisky, that'd be interesting
so we win 40-31? doubt itDo you think that person will get all of PSU’s points?
this is kinda random but does anyone know what happened to the blue jerseys? did we just stop wearing them lmao
I'm so flippin old and I've been celebrating the win in Ann Arbor all day and it's a different sport.....but I'm sure all the old-timers (and it pains me to call us old-timers) will never forget how confident we felt in 91 when Iowa came to Champaign with illinois No. 5 in the country only to watch Nick Bell and Hayden Fry completely embarass us. Don't think it's unfair to say Illini football hasn't recovered to this day.Expect PSU to show some fight, but we should win by 10-15. That would set up the biggest home game against iowa (if big ten title is on the line) in how long?
I’d have taken it back in the Bruce days.so we win 40-31? doubt it
I expect them to play us tough, they'll be plenty mad at the drubbing they just got from Nebby, the bottom feeder
If Purdue goes first it wouldn’t revert back to our head to head record vs Wisconsin? No, it is W-L against the group. Purdue would be 3-1, while both Illinois and Wisconsin would be 1-2. So, Purdue first, then we compare Illinois and Wisconsin winning percentages against the 4th place team. If still tied, then 5th, etc
NoIf Purdue goes first it wouldn’t revert back to our head to head record vs Wisconsin?
That makes too much sense. So no.If Purdue goes first it wouldn’t revert back to our head to head record vs Wisconsin?
When does the B1G do anything the right way? LOLThat makes too much sense. So no.
Correct, Purdue is #1 in this scenario. However, in determining #2 you would go back to the first tie breaker, head-to-head, and we beat Wisconsin. If Purdue had won the conference outright and it was just Wisconsin and Illini for #2 that is the way it would work! No, it is W-L against the group. Purdue would be 3-1, while both Illinois and Wisconsin would be 1-2. So, Purdue first, then we compare Illinois and Wisconsin winning percentages against the 4th place team. If still tied, then 5th, etc
Or a two way tie. So, ideally, and I heavily stress that word "ideally" (or perhaps I should say "in a perfect Illinois basketball world") wouldn't it be better if Wisconsin beat Purdue and then Nebraska beat Wisconsin? Of course, I highly and emphatically doubt Nebraska beats Wisconsin especially at home but considering the upsets in the Big Ten (and last week for the 7 of the top 10 ranked teams) and how they say anyone can beat anyone on any given night ... Ah, speculation. Drives me crazy and creates too many sleepless nights this time of the year.Got it, thanks. Big 10 tournament seeding isn't all that important, so I guess we're rooting for the 3 way tie!
