Higher number means more difficult. Effectively, it means there are no bad teams in Illinois' pod, where as every other pod has at least one bad team (also Gonzaga is super good and overcomes the weak team in their pod).
When you put it like that, it makes Arizona look less formidable should we get there.

I'm knocking on wood, cause I said same thing last year looking at Loyola in our bracket.
Yeah, I'm definitely looking at Kenpom's ranking for Houston and seeing parallels between how Loyola was highly regarded by efficiency based measures. I get that Houston hasn't really beaten anybody, but who had Loyola beaten before they met us in the tourney last year(spoiler alert: nobody)?

I still think we beat Houston if we face them, just saying I don't think we got the easiest draw early on. I do think we got a decent or even favorable draw for everything after the second round. I'm good with Arizona as the 1-seed we would have to face, Villanova is a weak 2-seed, Tennessee a strong 3-seed, and if we have to worry about Gonzaga or Baylor I'll be thrilled because it won't be until the championship game.

I think the Houston-Loyola comparison is a good one. But as a one seed last year, we got screwed having to play Loyola. As a 4 seed, you should expect either a team like Houston/St Mary’s, or a tough big conference also-ran like Iowa/UConn.

Of all the higher BIG seeds, I think PU has the worst draw with scorching Va Tech potential in round two.

If Illinois has a sense of urgency about every game possibly being their last, I think they can beat anybody. Last year they didn't play with urgency at the start against Loyola, got punched in the mouth (or open faced slapped in the mouth, for you Howard apologists), and couldn't recover in time.

The committee thinks Illinois is the best team in this pod. Let's show them they did at least one thing right.

Virginia Tech beat down Duke! I watched the game. They are pretty good but when they are running on all cylinders like they were the other night could make a run.

UAB has a guy that has scored 40 and 42 in games this year. He's taken 283 3's and is shooting 40.6%. At 5'11" he's the classic March Madness underdog who just goes nuts and wins a game. The 12/5 matchup is upset central, but I don't think we'll be that lucky.
I wanted UAB just for that reason. That walking bucket guard is only about 5'11'' and would be an ideal matchup for Trent.

I'd argue that Illinois got the A team, but that's also probably because they're expecting that pod to be the most exciting. Nantz team gets the Duke pod so they can wax poetic about Coach K for 3 games that don't involve Duke and 1 game that does.

LOL that's what I was thinking too. 'Let's follow Coach K on his last journey'. mehhhhh. I can't wait for them to be over and I hope it happens quickly.

I really liked Reggie Miller as a player, but man is he bad as an analyst. Would take known Illini hater Bardo (/s) over him any day of the week. Heck, give me Bill Walton. At least there's some WTF entertainment value there.

I actually like him as an analyst. He seems like a 3rd wheel with this team but they've seemingly used him as 3rd man, at least pre-covid. I guess I get why they do it with how much Harlan and Miller work together on NBA on TNT.

Which lower ranking teams do y'all like to win a couple games this year?
Miznoz. LOL you did say THIS year
and I'd like it to be ONLY a couple.

Seriously, I hope Rutgers wins a few, my daughter got her CS degree from there unless they play us of course.
