Anyone hear anything about Skyy breaking his hand? Only 8 months removed from his ACL and Meniscus tears, hopefully this doesn't set him back too far.
Edit: appears to have happened back in February.

Tevo (#191): “One of the great things about college sports is the fine line it walks between loyalty and change. For a long time, you had relatively little movement of players...”

‘Loyalty’ to one’s self is almost always preeminent when it comes to ‘change and loyalty’. Players are always going to go where they feel their best chances to succeed are (and whether staying or going is best for them). Same for coaches. Where can I find the most success?... as well as the lure of bigger paychecks. Staying or going? What’s in it for ME?

Loyalty to a Program is almost always secondary for both players and coaches with some rare exceptions. (Ayo might be one exception. He committed himself to personal success but also to the Illini Program with the goal to elevate it. Some voices would have argued to him that he might have found greater personal success elsewhere). But that kind of dedication (and potential ‘self-sacrifice’) is rare.

Some coach’s loyalty to a player has been be sacrificed if the coach thinks he can personally succeed more without that player.

If transferring without penalty had been made easier years ago it would have been common to do so as it is now. Loyalty is to self. (Not saying that is a ‘selfish thing’. It’s just natural for anyone to do. But players must be treated with respect by coaches and not just as a means to an end. These are young men at a critical time in their lives and they put their faith and trust in a coach.

Change was always baked into the cake. But the rules made change slower to enact before the Portal and change is now much faster with it.

Tevo: “Coaches more often ‘Creen’ or advise players about their futures, and those players can read the writing on the wall. Fans commitment to those players is less cemented, because we know they can and will move on to other schools...”

This is what Free Agency did to MLB. With the freer movement of players and less of a personal attachment from fan to player... sports fans realized They really were ‘rooting for laundry’ (and a logo) more than they really did for most players personally.

Just as players and coaches loyalty to self is preeminent, so it is with fans. We want what’s best for US (and ‘OUR team’). We get attached to teams for different reasons but bottom line because we get some personal pleasure out of it and want to see winners not losers.

And with many college players now leaving early to go pro... this opens up roster spots for new guys who wouldn’t have had the chance to join a team because a guy had roster spot locked up for three or four years. That is a good thing and gives more guys major college ball experience than was before).

So the future will be what we have now unless something comes along to change it. Today all the three parts are always in motion... Players, coaches, and FANS each pursuing their self-interest. As fans we hope that all these can intersect at our chosen team to bring all of us what we’re looking for.

To be clear, I think there is a distinction between talking about transfers in season vs after the season.

It's a virtual fact that there will be transfers after the season. I personally don't choose to speculate on here about who that will be, but I have an idea of who those candidates might be. And if other posters feel the need to speculate on the board, it doesn't bother me. That's half of what this board is- baseless speculation from fans who just want (need?) to talk to other people about Illini hoops. This time of year, transfers are kind of an important part of that conversation.

Unless a player is getting creaned, I don't think discussing who might transfer is much different than discussing who might go pro. In both instances, players are leaving to do what they feel is the best move for their basketball careers.

Anyway, it's fine to disagree. Rarely is my goal to get someone to agree with me. Usually I just hope you can understand where I'm coming from.
This is a common sense and very astute take...... How dare you!!

Question for Indy, 0440, DB, TCT, etc.

Assuming you all get your info separately, how do you get all this information? How does an Illini fan know that an LSU transfer is going to Auburn before they announce their intent to transfer? A big text thread with folks in the know? A secret insider discord server? Endless phone calls? I'm curious as to how, don't want to hear about actual sources. You guys are generally so far ahead of the news. Thanks for your contributions to the board for us outsiders.

At this point, and after everything has changed transfer rules wise, you have to be ready for anyone to leave regardless of how dug in anyone feels.

Instagram posts, twitter etc. Doesn't matter...thing have changed to the point where kids are now taught "Get yours" and "If you are not getting what you want immediatly, move on". Thats for better or worse, because I am for players wanting to get the best out of their careers, but sometimes working hard for something and waiting until your time comes is extremely valuble and can be much better for you in the long run.

For me, just from the outside, Payne looks like #1 target to move on, even if he has to sit a year. He went from 15 mpg at Florida to coming here thinking he has a great shot at starting, to Kofi coming back and eating up all his minutes, to us getting a transfer with high upside, (I LOVE Dainja, I think the sky is the limit for him if he can keep his body in check). After all that, only plays 7 mpg. That's tough. And I think he has tremendous defensive potential. But his IQ and offense has been very underwhelming.
I say we don't speculate on that because like the other poster said, Payne seemed somewhat happy to me and I definitely don't mind keeping him.

The insiders could tell you this, but then they would have to kill you.

They know people who know stuff. I don't think its any more complicated than that.

Not sure how solid his numbers are, but 100k followers since committing. Wow. Don’t see Duke going anywhere anytime soon.

How do you do it? You've had some over the years (appreciated).

It's basically this, but with college b-ball information instead of a car (and nobody -- hopefully -- is getting robbed):

I definitely would love him around too. I meant no ill will with the thought. I just know that there are going to be changes to the team for next year, and I'm curious on how that plays out and was voicing my opinion on it and how I thought it may happen.

I obviously don't know what will happen, but I am very excited about potential incoming players AND the improvement from year to year on our current group...I just know that may come with a few departures, and I am interested in that aspect and how it unfolds.

Along with that, it potentially gives Brad a few new ways to use the roster depending on who is here. There is alot to like and look forward to in that.

Sorry if i came off wrong in my earlier response. Speculate about trasfers all you want, its a message board like others have said. You probably just caught the end of my frustration with the "so and so is probably unhappy because...." Unless we know someone is truly unhappy we shouldn't make assumptions based on how we would feel in their situation.

100k is a lot but I am very very curious to know how many are fake purchased follows. You can search online and find tons of sketchy services who will follow your socials with bulk accounts they control. Super cheap way to play the optics game if one were so inclined.

(Very loosely related soapbox sidenote: tons of online reviews are fake and more people need to be skeptical of them!)
