I don't think that's true. As long as the scholarship situation is settled by the first practice, a team can accept commitments from players w/o having an available scholarship at the time of the commitment. At least that's what I've been told.

The danger is in adding a criterion that we don't know actually exists. All we know is that he wants to transfer and play basketball. A number of NCAA D1 basketball players don't get their degrees; others do. We can't say with any certainty that a degree is central to his decision making process. That's all
