Just remember:

We loss AJ Storr and Reggie Bass and people said "who are we going to grab now"? We end up with:
Ty Rodgers, Jayden Epps, and Skyy Clark.

I didn't know a single one of these guys a year ago. I didn't even know who Skyy Clark was before a month ago? There's plenty of recruits out there and not landing guys early isn't the end of the world

Players have until the end of the month to enter.

I’ve been a bit surprised at the number (lack of) of B10 players entering the portal compared to the portal as a whole. Too much work for me to do, but I also wonder what the % of mid major transfers is vs high major. (1241 total as of right now and has been going up around 100/day).
Likely the result of so many big names graduating or going pro. Lot of reserves on the top teams can look at their projected roster and seeing a good path to PT (though that may change as the transfer portal shakes out).

Is there even a remote possibility of landing JJ Taylor?
Probably not, aside from transferring to Donda Academy last fall he also just transferred to Lebron’s AAU in California from Mac Irvin. His recruitment has been pretty mellow so far. Kentucky was once thought to be the favorites but I believe they deprioritized Taylor so no team is thought to be a favorite right now.

Who are the Takes for the '23 class? Ames, Thomas, Watson?
An underrated name might be Jazz Gardner, 6’10 kid who can shoot. Chester Frazier began recruiting him at Virginia Tech and continued recruiting him when he got to Illinois. The coaching staff visited him last fall and his dad has commented on Frazier’s twitter that Jazz has expressed interest in Illinois. The coaching staff might go hard on him if Xavier Booker commits elsewhere as a possible Kofi replacement.

We might not even recruit anyone in 2023
Not trying to question your wisdom but it is possible we will have one or two players coming off the roster next year not even counting the transfer-outs. Under that circumstance, we will not recruit 2023? I know you can bank or wait for the portal but do coaches do that often these days?

Never mind - just a joke from 0440.

I would hope most time if illinois wants the player and it is Iowa st, Loyola and us. Then he selects illinois. Would expect better completion for future recruits
Unfortunately recent history (2018) has shown that's not always the case.

Hopefully that's the change we see in recruiting moving forward...we're nationally 2nd tier trending towards blue blood territory in recruits (and results).

I was going to say this. No way he or anyone else wears 25 unless UofI wants to make Chicago people angry. It's a Simeon reserved number but I think it goes deeper than just Simeon from a respect for Benji thing. I would be a bit shocked if any non-Simeon player ever wears #25 for UofI.
Jerrance Howard and Jean Selus wore #25 but I get your overall point.

Success and failure are both contagious. Once you start up momentum in one direction or the other it can be tough to reverse your fortunes.

Look at the Nebraska football program. For decades it was one of the very best. Now – for the last 20 years — it has been a laughingstock. Things change. And when a program doesn’t have a plan on how to keep success going... it can only go in a wrong direction.

We all know that the Illini roundball fortunes changed the day our new AD was hired. A talented guy with a vision. And what did he do? He hires another talented guy with a vision. Who also just happens to love Illinois ball. That’s where it starts. That’s the seed bed for success.

The Illini have great momentum and mojo going now. The key is to keep it going long-term and make it a habit and not let it get derailed like it did after 2005.

Your actions today dictate your future of tomorrow.
The choices you make form the trails you take....
