He's broken through that second ceiling as you head towards being a regularly elite team. First one is winning consistently during the regular season. Second one is becoming a "cool"/desirable team in the eyes of young players, to the point where you have high-level talent committing early and often. ZZ said exactly those words today. Ayo got that ball rolling but I have a feeling Skyy will bring his own kind of showtime to the team that will make us fun to watch again (unlike a lot of this year). Step three is winning in the NCAAs. Hopefully these guys we've been bringing in of late can get us over the hump in the next two years (tempering my expectations -- for now -- for next year since we'll be young). He's impressed the hell out of me. Definitely need to peak better for the NCAAs, but you need high level talent, and we're seeing him assemble rosters with a lot of upside. Love it!
Bold prediction but insightful. This is correct, the 2021 & 2022 teams will not win the national championship.
Wait....there's a purpose to this list??Dude No! Close family friend. If you knew Larry, his name wouldn't be on here.
In fairness to everyone. Not sure anyone knows why we are naming random players across numerous eras of Illini history.Dude No! Close family friend. If you knew Larry, his name wouldn't be on here.
Jalen Duren was a re-class in 2021. Projected lottery pick this year. How many reclass players have excelled competing a year ahead of their graduating class? I'd prefer they hone their skills in HS and practice a little patience. I could *maybe* see ZZ doing it in case Skyy goes pro after two years. But Morez? No.
Emoni Bates scored 9.7 ppg in 23.4 mpg and his FG and 3 pt percentages were pretty dang close to Trent's, with Trent being a substantially better FT shooter.Jalen Duren was a re-class in 2021. Projected lottery pick this year.
Of course so was Emoji Bates.
so take what you will from that
