How are we not still talking about Drew Timme?
I mean he's no Kofi but I think he would be a decent addition to the team.
I'm not sure he's an automatic take. I mean, that handle-bar 'stache would play well at The Rose Bowl in Urbana. But the long neck, skinny arms, and poor facial taste would infuriate a majority of the fan base and donors, who would likely pull their donations.

The staff has a plan. Good news is coming. Sorry about Shannon to those who seemed offended, at the time it appeared he was a lock but things change

Thank you for a sincere reply. Clearly, Illinois fans here are easily triggered. First, I also bleed orange and blue and will always be a fan dreaming of that title.
Also a late 80’s alumni, I have been fortunate to be able to donate to specific facility projects (Most recently for Ubben), as well as towards general athletic funds over the years. However, as you and many others have said before, the entire landscape of college athletics has evolved into something unrecognizable from our day. The entire point of me posting in the first place was to acknowledge that I have been ethically torn and to seek feedback from other donors— so thanks again. Fundamentally, I just became too conflicted. Seriously, what is the point of a public university??? It just seems to be way out of balance now. Between the network revenues and NIL, I also started to feel like I was being duped. I will still support U of I but will be shifting my donations towards areas I now consider more impactful for the university as a whole, like research and scholarships, not just men’s bball. Who knows, maybe it’s just me getting old.
I understand your feelings but for me I have been motivated in just the opposite way. I have more many years contributed to the university but in the past two years have made substantial donations to the I Fund. Yes, the landscape for athletics has changed and currently seems to lack any control. But I also realize that there are hundreds of Illini athletes that don’t get NIL money and benefit from scholarships and funding to their programs. At the same time I see the university building new buildings and expanding like crazy both here and abroad so I don’t feel they are hurting. I guess as I get older I just enjoy the escape Illinois athletics provides and am willing to support it as much as I can.

Most understand and do not blame you. I'm sure your info was SOLID at that time and turned liquid recently...hence the reason recruiting is fluid.

I say pass on him. I don't want him taking minutes from the freshmen (that Brad won't play).

We will get a transfer, just a matter of who.

I mean… this team sorely needs proven players at the college level. Our most experienced returning player is Coleman. That isn’t a recipe for success. I get that youth is exciting but age wins. As BU says “get old and stay old”. I don’t see how we have any momentum either. If anything we faded down the stretch and bowed out of the tourney rather weakly.

You don't see how hanging 2 banners in 2 years, putting Ayo in the league (as one of the better rookies this year,) and bringing in a top-10 class in the country, including our highest ranked recruit in 20 years, constitutes as having momentum? Tough crowd.

And I believe an insider laughed at an early comment about TSJ going to Michigan.
Punish the insiders if they didn’t have accurate information 100% of the time. This board will be so much better if the only people on here have no actual information and it’s all speculation about players there is no chance with, neck length, admissions standards, and athletic comparisons to Larry Bird.

Terrible…count me out.

I'd say we were a blue blood back Lou's days. Tournament every year and a strong seed. Multiple elite 8's, sweet 16's. A fee final 4's. Conference champs. High ranked teams. That all came crashing down post 2005. Though, we are building it back.
I'd like to say I'm better looking than Brad Pitt, but most would disagree.

A 2017 ESPN article rated college basketball programs historically based on AP rankings, which started that system in 1949. I know, more of a popularity spin on it, but interesting, nonetheless.

1. Kentucky, 1111 points
2. North Carolina, 1098 points
3. Duke, 1032 points
4. UCLA, 957 points
5. Kansas, 857 points
6. Indiana, 662 points

7. Louisville, 627 points
8. Arizona, 594 points
9. Syracuse, 581 points, highlighted only due to being listed in the wins list
10. Cincinnati, 500 points
11. ILLINOIS, 479 points
(I remember during Lou's reign that we were around #11 historically in total wins - yes, I am that old. Nice coincidence.)
12. Ohio State, 453 points
13. Michigan State, 434 points (Little Brother, My Foot!)
14. Michigan, 423 points

15. Georgetown, 421 points
16. UConn, 432 points
17. Maryland, 400 points
18. Notre Dame, 382 points
19. Villanova, 372 points
20. Oklahoma, 371 points
21. Marquette, 366 points
21. North Carolina State, 366 points
23. Iowa, 343 points
24. Purdue, 339 points

25. UNLV, 321 points
26. Memphis (307 points)
27. St. John's (306 points)

How does any of that make the on court product better for 2022-2023?? If the argument is that we have momentum on the recruiting trial. That is 100% fair and accurate. But I’d consider a long tourney run to provide momentum for a program. We won the big ten regular season title and then proceeded to go 1-2 with a scoring differential of -16 to close out the season. And we were -19 dating back to the Purdue game. I just don’t see how “momentum” is carrying over. We also lost multiple players to the portal and kofi declaring. I like the trajectory of the program. But we really need to add some proven college players.

Interesting, since that time we have no S16s and Scum has a final four appearance and 4 S16s. I hate to say it, but at this point they are a better program historically. Hope we surpass them in the coming years and feel good about the prospect of doing that.

I don't know what qualifies as a blue blood. I'm just about at the point of putting it as UCLA, Kansas, NC, and Kentucky. In five years I'll put Duke if they survive the coaching change. IU is a probable as well for history and the number of titles. However, it's been 20 years since they've been to the E8/FF. That's a long time for a BB.

I would say we were one of the top programs in the country before the Ill-timed 1966 derailing. Lou Henson had on us back on track in the 1980s, until his program was sabotaged. Kruger and Self had us back on top on the early 00s. Then things went internally awry after Self left.

You don’t need to apologize. If someone(s) on here is that angry about an insider being wrong, that person(s) should do their health a favor and just stay off these threads and just wait until signing day.
