Sara Bareilles went to another customer with great taste and who is more of a morning person than I.

Alas, still a pretty great haul today:
1. Bo Burnham - "Inside"
2. Childish Gambino - "Awaken, My Love!"
3. Father John Misty - "Live at Third Man Records"
4. Norah Jones - "I Dream of Christmas" (love a spring discount on a holiday record).
5. The Killers - "Hot Fuss"
6. Miscellaneous - "Rocketman: Music from the Motion Picture"
7. Portugal. The Man - "In The Mountain In The Cloud"

Support your local record store! <3

I am friends with the guy who owns basically all the record stores in Fort Wayne, Indiana (I think 4 stores in all). Just a super stellar guy. He goes all out on this day, and I love him for that. Also bought a record from the Minneapolis band ‘Humbird’ last night. Super good tripping music, and an incredible show. Here’s to good music, great record stores, and vibes that fill your cup.

Evolution: The Best of Iron Butterfly
(1971)
Metamorphosis is the fourth album by Iron Butterfly, released on August 13, 1970. It reached number 16 on the US charts.[1] Mike Pinera and Larry " El Rhino" Reinhardt became members of Iron Butterfly in the early part of 1970.
The album was recorded at American Recording studio and produced by Richard Podolor, engineered by Bill Cooper.
The single "Easy Rider" reached number 66 on the Billboard chart,[1] making it the band's biggest hit aside from "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". The album is noted for having one of the earliest uses of the talk box on a rock album, which Pinera used on "Butterfly Bleu."

My favorite piece of Iron Butterfly............My band played InAGaddaDaVidda at all our concerts....was most requested song back then.....i played keyboards and backup vocals....
This is my favorite iron butterfly album...hands down. Originally saw it in a dime store in indiana...didn't buy it and it took me 20 years to find it in a used record store...bought it immediately.

Our church doubles as a concert hall. We’ve hosted the likes of Richie Havens, Leon Russell, Johnny Winter (all just before their respective passing). Believe it or not, people still perform here! Haha. Though my claim to fame is being lifelong friends with Jason Ringenberg of Jason & the Scorchers.
Jason and the Scorcher's played in bloomington il back in the 80s...let us use their sound system to sing Beatles tune acapella during their break...it was horrible but respected them for being ok with it.

Grand Funk Railroad, sometimes shortened as Grand Funk, is an American hard rock band popular during the 1970s, who toured extensively and played to packed arenas worldwide.[2] Known for their crowd-pleasing arena rock style, the band was well-regarded by audiences despite a relative lack of critical acclaim.[3] The band's name is a play on words of the Grand Trunk Western Railroad, a line that runs through the band's home town of Flint, Michigan.
Grand Funk Railroad was formed as a trio in 1969 by Mark Farner (guitar, keyboards, harmonica, vocals) and Don Brewer (drums, vocals) from Terry Knight and the Pack, and Mel Schacher (bass) from Question Mark & the Mysterians.[2] Knight soon became the band's manager and also named the band as a play on words for the Grand Trunk Western Railroad, a well-known rail line in Michigan.[2] First achieving recognition at the 1969 Atlanta International Pop Festival, the band was signed by Capitol Records. After a raucous, well-received set on the first day of the festival, Grand Funk was asked back to play at the 1970 Atlanta International Pop Festival II the following year. Patterned after hard-rock power trios such as Cream, the band, with Terry Knight's marketing savvy, developed its own popular style. In August 1969 the band released its first album titled On Time, which sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold record in 1970.[4]

In February 1970 a second album, Grand Funk (or The Red Album), was awarded gold status.[4] Despite critical pans and little airplay, the group's first six albums (five studio releases and one live album) were quite successful.

Closer to Home is the third studio album by American rock band Grand Funk Railroad. The album was released on June 15, 1970, by Capitol Records. It was produced by Terry Knight. This album reached RIAA gold record status in 1970, making it the group's third gold record in one year. The album's inside artwork shows a live photo of the band performing at Madison Square Garden in February 1970.

In 2002 Closer to Home was remastered on compact disc with bonus tracks and also released in a limited-edition box set Trunk of Funk that contained the band's first four albums. The "trunk" has slots for twelve CDs to house the future release of the remaining eight albums that were released by Capitol. Also included is a pair of "Shinin' On" 3-D glasses, guitar pick and a sticker reproducing a concert ticket.

The first time I heard this album was in a recording studio in St. Louis , Mo in the fall of 1970........Our bass player's car had broken down in Salinas , Ks so someone in the band yelled ""Road trip "" and it was on .....travelling from southern Illinois was a pack of crazy 19 yr old dudes to pick up our bud....After we picked him up , as we were travelling back home fully medicated we stopped at a studio we had cut a couple of demo's at and the dude we knew there asked us if we had heard GFR 's new album........So , we listened for about 4 hours over and over to the disc...the dude there gave us an album to take home ....we ended up playing 3-4 songs off of this album and they were well received by our following of fans....

Saw this band at Kiel Auditorium sometime in 1971....can't remember when ......lol

I miss those days...........................................

Grand Funk Railroad...another all time favorite. Mark Farner got the short shift and the band has been forgettable ever since.

Hey all, so I'm just discovering this thread here and glad to find some of you hard core music lovers who share an Illini tie.

One thing that I've been thinking lately, is the age old pub question - "what would your musical dream Supergroup look like?"

Thought I would put it out there to see what everyone's thoughts are and why. Can be any style or genre.

Let's see....

Terry Kath...Guitar/Vocals
Jimi Hendrix... Guitar/Vocals
Tom Petersson...Bass
Mike Portnoy...Drums
Doug Ingle...Keys/Vox
Chicago Horns Brass
Jimi hendrix said he loved Terry Kath as a guitarist...so I would like to see them play together. I chose Petersson and Portnoy as a dynamic rhythm section. Doug Ingle from Iron Butterfly because I love the vocals and keys...and the Chicago horn section because Jimi was interested in using Horns in later days and horns can augment the sound. I don't know if it would sound good, but I would have loved to see what they could do

I'll go with a crossover of two bands that were formative for me (context, I'm a 32-year-old white dude): The Black Keys + The White Stripes.

Oooo that's a good take. One of the biggest misfortunes in music is the world not getting to hear where Jimi would've taken his music.

Very cool and unique sound. The combo of Layne, Jimi, and Ginger would've been very formidable and electric, to say the least

My own take would be the following, I think:

Lead Vocals - Lou Gramm (Foreigner) and Wilson Pickett (doing like a Sam and Dave type thing)
Guitar - Edward Van Halen
Guitar and backing vocals - Warren Haynes
Organ and backing Vocals - Bobby Whitlock
Bass - Donald "Duck" Dunn
Drums - Jim Gordon

Obviously I'm pretty partial to the late 60s and 70s rock/blues/r&b stuff. But man the wall of sound and vocal harmonies that could theoretically be generated by that group... oh man.

Nice....I love Warren Haynes. My first grouping started off looking like the Allman Bros pt.5 ...gregg...duane...Terry kath...Jack Cassady and ginger baker / mike shrieve...plus chicago horns...but decided to change from an all time favorite format to something a bit more unpredictable
