Eh, I realize it’s a really small sample size but I think Goode has shown some really good flashes defensively. Seems to understand rotations and more often than not is in the right spot. Agree he lacks the foot speed to realistically keep up with most 2’s, but I think the consensus on here has been he’s more of a 3/4, and in the Houston game he really held his own against Fabian White, who is a Liddell type player that’s given us problems the last few years.

I don’t know that he will ever be a “plus” defender and highly doubt he ever gets to the level of DMW, but I think he has the potential to be a better defender than Grandison and and may already be.

I think he’s a more versatile piece than Ahrens and am excited to see what he does the next 3 years.
I see him more as a Grandison type player. Few mistakes on defense, excellent shooter, underrated passer and tough competitor. Solid player but not a star, the type you need to win championships.

So given our current roster. I’m predicting something along the lines of minutes.

G- Clark- 32, Epps- 8
G- Epps- 22, Harris- 18
G- Melendez- 30, TY- 6, Goode- 4
F- Hawkins-24, TY- 8, Goode-8
C Dain 22, BBV- 12, Hawk- 6
I see Goode gets more minutes than freshman except Skyy as long as he knows how to defend.

If Goode defends better than Grandi and shoots 3 well as he has shown, I would leave him in for 4th quarter in close games. He is a space creating player.

100% agreed. Well, he "could" play the 2 - it just wouldn't be ideal. Good coaches don't play SFs at SG. They do the opposite - they play PGs at SG and SGs at SF, and SFs at PF. The idea is to get more quickness, ball-handling, and shooting in your lineup.

Of course, you always have fans who fantasize about having the tallest lineup possible. Tall is certainly a good thing, but not if one doesn't have the requisite skills for the spot. Goode's best spot (by far) is the 3. His second best spot is the 4. He could play the 2, but it's not where most good coaches will want to put him.

Similarly, Rodgers's best position right now is probably the 4. If he develops a consistent outside shot, you can start talking about him playing the 3, and yes, even possibly the 2. He does look to have good handles and looks pretty damn quick, although that's from H.S. tape. Whether he can do it at the college level is yet to be seen.
Brad Underwood says Ty can run the point..... just the messenger

Watch him in high school and AAU.....He is literally a point forward....
It’s high school man. Anyone with talent will run the point. High school coaches put the ball in the hands of their most talented players. Just because he can do it against a bunch of 5’10 guys who will be rushing in a few months isn’t the same as handling the ball against other D1 prospects. How many of those is he going up against at thorton township? I love him as a undersized high energy 4 that can pass. I’ve watched his film and think he will be a great success. But let’s relax on the point forward talk until we actually see it. Mark smith was also Jason Kidd for a little bit

Watching Ty Rodgers play, I'd say he is a point forward. He has a very, very unusual skill set for a HS player. Those skills will translate to college.

Does that mean he could actually play PG in college? I don't know about that. But his ballhandling and passing skills are very, very advanced for a guy who will be able to play forward in college. That will be incredibly valuable in facilitating team offense.

I definitely agree. He’s got a very unique skill set. Imo he’s draymond green clone. Neither can shoot but they affect the game so many ways. I’d just be weary calling him a point forward yet. Ben Simmons was that. Jokic is that. Just not many college players who can do that in the modern offense.
