I’d take both emoni and manny. Manny is a huge get imo.
0440 mentioned that Underwood wants nothing to do with Emoni, and I highly doubt IL lands Manny. JMHO. I'm curious if Efton Reid is still an option, not that he's a stud or anything. But he'd be a good depth *big* to have.

Just had a memory pop up it was on this date in 2017 a certain Mr. Smith announced he was "staying home."

I will leave now.

Anyone who is passing on a talent like Emoni Bates is kidding themselves. Brad will bring in the guys he trusts to be everyday guys. Trust in Brad. As for Manny, there will be better options in the portal this week. Not saying I wouldn’t take him but there will be better options

Maybe we're coming unglued about transfers when it's still possible (I think) we'll still have Grandison and maybe Hutcherson as well. They're both those rangy 6-6 wings we crave who are experienced collegiate players who can shoot it. Do we have any update on them? Of course, none of us probably has a strong opinion on Hutcherson since he's missed nearly all his games at IL due to injury. What do you think?

I am wondering what the timeframe may be for Pete Nance to make his decisions. I think he would be ideal but I do not know if we have an in with him or not if he does decide to transfer like many feel he will.

I can’t see why we wouldn’t take a chance on a top 5 prospect. We’ve never had one. That’s a different level of player. I can’t see Efton committing somewhere to be a depth piece. He played 20MPG and started every game on a tourney team as a freshman. He’s gonna command some guaranteed playing time. He’s also much more proven than dain at this point. So if he is coming in, I would pencil him in as the starter. I’d be fine with efton (25MPG) and dain (12-15mpg). But I don’t see efton committing without a clear path to playing time.

Can I ask why? Why wouldn’t you want a former top 5 prospects? Or a 6-11 menace that led the ACC in blocks during the 2020-21 season and swatted 4.9 shots per 40 minutes over his two seasons at NC state?
The best stat I saw on Emoni was Memphis was something like 3-12 with him on the court and 10-2 without him. He's no doubt a great talent, but he's a circus with his entourage, and if that circus hurts you more than helps you, then hard pass.

I'd be fine with Manny Bates, elite shot blocker, but he is coming off a shoulder surgery on his shooting arm, and wasn't a great shooter in the first place. With a guy his size, I'd also like to see more rebounds. I think Manny would be a fine backup big, but does he want to be a backup?

The big I'd love is Johni Broome, but I'm guessing he will stay in the state of Kentucky. He definitely appears to be looking almost entirely blue blood.

He is going to do the workouts for NBA scouts and get feedback before he decides what he is doing next.

We have had top 5 players it has just been a while. It has too long for sure.

I think that may be a bit unfair to put all of that losing on Bates. Memphis was very young and there was a definite learning curve for not just him but most of the team. That slow start from being so young is one thing I hope we can avoid and why it's vital we do well in the portal over the spring and summer.

no doubt, but the fact still remains there was a stark contrast. The biggest issue is the entourage. Underwood doesn't take that crap, so he won't be at Illinois.

Several weeks ago I was chatting with a friend and bemoaning this new college basketball world of portals and free transfers. But I finished by saying, "At least with the portal we get instant gratification (compared to high school recruiting)". That statement is sure starting to age poorly. 😂

But FTR, I'm not that anxious about who we add and when. I think the players we currently have can get us to the tournament.

Who?? Our highest ranked recruit ever on 247 is sky and he’s a 4 star. Him and Richmond were both 29 overall. McBride was 31. Dee was 22. Emoni was 5th. I don’t think we’ve ever had a top 10. Let alone a top 5.

That is why Microsoft came up with the Word "app"

Alt: Type your long response (in the thread), Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C, then "Post reply". IF thread locked then Ctrl-V in new thread

Hey, you got to use your IL education sometime

Rankings were different in the day but....Marcus Liberty and Lowell Hamilton surely were. Both were ranked # 1 by a few publications.
