Nothing but the best for Podz. He was always who I watched in warm ups, seemed like he made 80% of the 3s he took.
Relating to this, I went to see Kansas play at the Rosemont horizon, second round NCAA game.
They had their five guards all at the three-point Arc, just shooting threes during warm-ups. I was watching, and noticed they were ALL going in. I started counting, and between the five of them 15 straight went in, and time ran out. I don't think I saw a miss. That was a shorter arc, as it was a while back, but just a reminder - these guys are REALLY good.

Which would clearly push Luke Goode to the 2.

Mayer is like bizarro Luke Goode. 6'9" that can actually play the 2 and even solidly handle the ball.

Just gonna throw this out there for those that complain we don't talk enough about recruiting. Mayer’s shooting percentage went down significantly (fg% 48.9 to 40.9 and 3p% 39.5 to 32.4) with more playing time (min. 15.7 to 22.8) this past season, which is a little concerning. His free throw percentage did at least go up, though (ft% 59.2 to 70.0). He stands to make a lot of money if he can get that shot more consistent. He has solid rebounding numbers (reb. 5.0) and plays stellar defense (stl. 1.2). His versatility and length (6'9") are his biggest assets and I think BU could find a lot of ways to use him. Also, obviously, he knows what it takes to win.

If it’s an either-or situation, I’d rather have Nance. Though, I would hope that’s not the case, as Nance is more of a 4/5 and Mayer is a wing. I would be pretty darn excited to see Mayer in the orange and blue next year and could learn to love the mullet.

I don't disagree on preferring Nance, but I think the performance gap is smaller than last year's stats might suggest. Even over a full season there's still quite a bit of sample size noise in individual stats, and especially when you're talking about 3FG% (see also: Williams, Da'monte). My guess is that both will show some reversion to the mean and that their true shooting ability is actually pretty close together, though Mayer's higher volume this year gives me a bit of pause. They're roughly ten makes apart in each direction, if that puts it in context.

I like what Nance brings in the post a bit more and he's clearly one of the best players in the portal, but I'd be over the moon with either of these guys. If it's truly a choice we have to make, I'd consider it an envious position.

Does the NBA have anything like the NFL scramble to sign guys post draft?
Don't think it's quite the same, just because rosters are so much smaller. Certainly not as much opportunity to actually make the team. Pretty much all undrafted guys (and a good chunk of the 2nd round guys) end up in the G-League rather then on the NBA roster.

I would think someone would bring him in for camp at least. Knowing how hard he is to evaluate given his questionable fit in today's game, it would be worth checking out how it actually plays out in the preseason. Just my two cents.

I want the best for Kofi and I hope he proves the so called experts wrong but it's more probable than not that his decision to leave and not stay one or even two more years is one that is going to have an opportunity cost of over seven figures if he had stayed as. long as possible. He for sure would have cashed huge in his NIL like Oscar did. I hope he does by leaving but I highly doubt it given today's NBA.
I wonder who else the staff is strongly considering besides Nance and Maher? Any transfer PGs we are considering?
Kofi made the decision that he felt was best for him. He’s ready to start his professional career, so he’s taking the step to do that. We understand you don’t think it was the right decision and he should have taken the NIL money. No reason to bring that up every time the conversation turns to Kofi and the draft.

Mayer had the #1 defensive rating in the BIG 12 and the 3rd lowest TO%. Not sure people realize how important those 2 are.
That Daily Digest article referenced today stated ... "Though both Mayer and Hawkins can get a bit wild at times with their decision-making" ... so I immediately looked for his TO's and was pleasantly surprised to see his TO margin per 40 min's playing time to be less than 2.0. Ofc, poor decision making doesn't always translate to an actual counted TO in the strictest definition, but can be like one. Nevertheless, it sounds like he has so many positives to his game.

I get that he'd be upset about playing time, but would he really do that, considering he'd have to sit out anyway? I mean, over the course of the season, opportunities can arise, and the transfer is always there after the season.
That’s one way to develop bad locker room and team chemistry. Let’s hope we just wouldn’t do that to a guy spoken so highly of by staff.

We have been spoiled by Kofi for past 3 years. Having Kofi dominate the boards meant we could play small ball with rest of lineup.

In 2021 DaMonte at 6'3" routinely guarded 6'9" PF like Lidell etc. We also had Ayo' 6'4" 6 rbg and Adam 6'4" 3 rbg to help with rebounding.

In 2022 Coleman played 20 mpg at PF so we added some size but our guards Trent 6'1" and Alphonso 6'1" were small. When Coleman went out we were back to DaMonte at 6'3"

With Kofi gone we are left with 3 post players

Coleman 6'10"
Dain 6'9"
Rogers 6'6"

we badly need another body to throw into the lane. Dain and Rogers are unproven HS players. Coleman was only part-time starter last year.
