Sorry that this reply is a few days late but did I missing some sort of announcement about new uniforms for the upcoming season? I wish they'd debut a navy throwback Fighting Illini for a few road games this year....
No announcement that I am aware of but had remembered hearing that Nike refreshes every 3 years? Pretty sure we are due. Plus, quite obvious they can’t stand any of the standard 3 sets with slanted Illinois font.

Nance or Mayer. I'd be very happy with either one. And, since greed is good, I'd be very happy with both.
They both bring a different game to the team. Mayer will likely drop RJ to the 2 if he shows up with Nance. I’m an optimist, and a potential lineup could POSSIBLY look like
Skyy
RJ
TSJ
Mayer
Nance

Coleman
Goode
Epps

But I’m on optimist, not a realist🤣

At various times when Ayo was a 2nd and 3td year, Shannon was higher on the draft board. Didn't think it was justified because Ayo had PG skills and was more proven. But I now see what the scouts saw, an athletic off guard who shoot.

Dont see Coleman coming off the bench and Dainja not in the rotation. Thinking now that Sincere Harris is our 3rd PG and we can only take one high profile C/PF. Thinking Nance would be ideal. Rotation of Nance, Dainja and Coleman at the 4 and 5 would be solid

Everything I'm seeing puts Mayer as a 6'9" 2/3. Is this accurate? Can he play the 4?

Skyy / Epps
TSJ / Mayer
RJ / Ty / Mayer
Coleman / Nance / Goode
Dainja / Nance

Coleman is on some of the 2023 draft boards. Any player on the draft boards is very likely to start IMO. If Harris is ready to play as a freshman, that will be a nice bonus.

Question: Who is the third "PG"? Last year demonstrated that a team needs a third option who can do 5-8 minutes at the PG should one of the regulars be unavailable (injury, illness).

If you want to play #'s, on paper the closest thing to a true #2 is Harris, a 4 star, but that is at the high school level, and he is our 4th freshman. Other players will almost assuredly play the secondary ball handler and much more effectively due to experience. RJ and TSJ for certain. Mayer probably. Possibly Ty. Any wing that can potentially take a person off the dribble (especially if they can also dribble/back step for a respected high percentage three) can be a secondary ball handler because they are creating space or a scoring opportunity. It's all about that second move though, according to BU. How many times have we seen someone beat his man and run into traffic with no good shot or pass and then pick up their dribble? The point guard is their safety valve for a return pass if nothing materializes, but he has to read the play and fight for that return pass. We only have two point guards.

Yeah, where's Dainja?

Just don’t see Mayer as a substitute for Nance as he isn’t going to play the 5. That leaves Hawk as the only backup and always thought it wasn’t a good position for him. Hopefully he has added some bulk and the coaches think he is a viable option. Like Mayer’s game and energy but like Nance’s fit.

What we really need is a version of Bird that is a little quicker and stronger, isn't it?

Yeah, where's Dainja?
Those are my thoughts as well. With both Mayer and Nance, lineups are harder to come by. The problem with being so deep is it is harder to make a consistent rotation

Probably in our dream only anyway. We likely do not have enough NIL money to take both, let alone ticks.

The combination of RJ and TSJ IS the 2. And the 3. Positionless basketball. Wings, wings, lots of wings.
