No way Coleman comes off the bench with the addition of Mayer or Nance. Imo this is his team. He’s a vet, knows the system and is a projected NBA draft pick next year. Brad needs to let him loose.
They system, both offensively and defensively, is probably going to change without kofi and with more perimeter size and length. So he’s a vet of the culture, not necessarily the system.

He was also virtually unplayable in the middle of the season last year.....He has to get more consistent in practices and the weight room

Very true. Hopefully he will mature a bit being here a year longer. He's a giant crybaby whenever a foul is called. It's embarrassing when he throws his tantrums. Clean that up and he has the tools to be an Illini great.

We won't know if he starts until all the pieces are known and BU actually sees the results in practice. I would love him to start. He's 6' 10" and long and can really run the floor. You cannot add muscle cells at his age ... you can only hypertrophy them and increase their recruitment. Don't let the lankiness fool anyone into thinking this guy isn't working in the weight room.

No announcement that I am aware of but had remembered hearing that Nike refreshes every 3 years? Pretty sure we are due. Plus, quite obvious they can’t stand any of the standard 3 sets with slanted Illinois font.
Those weren't worn this this past season or the year prior.

Still a vet non the less. Culture.. I’ve heard BU speak of that word a few times. Exactly what Coleman provides. 3 years in this culture with his potential should constitute a starting position. Haven’t seen Dainja practice but I can’t seem him uprooting CH from the starting lineup.

Idk why you have it out for Coleman but the man can ball. Unplayable? You sure you’re not talking about Damonte?

After his hot stretch to start the year he was a turnover machine and wasn't making the same hustle plays he showed at the end of the year. He looked lost and didn't have any confidence. Definitely came on strong towards the end of the year but it was rough watching him for awhile there.

The keys for Hawkins are always going to be effort and consistency.

It seemed to me that perhaps he simply stopped hand checking and reaching when he got back into the rotation. Prior to that he couldn't stay on the floor due to fouling. His frustrations from fouling leaked into other parts of his game.

If part of the reason Hawk's playing time was limited at times was due to his work ethic and commitment, is that the "culture" you want rewarded? Earn your minutes. That should be the culture. It's your turn when your actions and play say its your turn.
He has a ton of potential, but don't confuse potential with development. Plenty of guys never reach their potential.

its interesting that this board has CH rated somewhere between getting drafted after this next season and struggling to get min. That is a really wide delta for a player. I like CH. He does things others cant, but I have trouble thinking he will get drafted. That might be because Curbello was in a mock draft or two last year at this time.

Who was saying he will struggle to get minutes? 0440 was just saying he struggled mightily in the middle of last season which is an undeniable fact (and makes it hard to see how he will be drafted), but that doesn't mean he won't be getting 20+ min a game.

The culture and the system are different things. Also, with the guys we’re getting in, the system is going to be tailored to their strengths too, probably with things they’ve done at their other schools that they were successful with. So they might have the upper hand in the system area too.

Hawkins has played small ball when Kofi was out this year soo - he does have some idea of what is going to transpire. Hawkins has an opportunity to shine. I personally believes he is going to run with it. As far as another big is concerned, we need one but who that is, remains to be seen. Hopefully it is someone that is serviceable with some athletic ability. Good defensively and can hit a few shots. I am not getting my hopes up about Nance or Meyer. I know N.C. wants Meyer because a friend of mine told me. He's a big tar heel fan.

Don't have it out for him. Hope he plays like he is capable of this year. But check synergy and get back to me on him vs Monte last year.
Coleman was good at the beginning and end of last season, but objectively awful for about 20 games in the middle, and essentially benched for awhile. I'm not sure why so many people forget that. He's got a great opportunity now, but needs to seize it.

I assumed they were both starting.
