I've always gotten excited about getting A top 50 player.......
Same here lol. (I definitely do not miss the pathetic recruiting from our previous coaching staffs. Getting a whole slew of young talented recruits is so refreshing) Its definitely a great time to be a die hard Fighting Illini fan right now. Pretty much everyday when I enter & exit this awesome website, I am always more confident in what we are building here. Great times ahead! GO ILLINI!:chief:

Since PODZ transferred down to Santa Clara, does that mean he did not have to waste his 1 free portal transfer? And he can play next year for SC then portal transfer for free to another D1 school? Or is SC still considered high enough D1 and he had to use his free portal service this year?

Question Mark What GIF by MOODMAN

What do you mean by high enough D1? D1 is D1. Santa Clara is D1 so… yes, he’s used up his free portal transfer by transferring there. It doesn’t matter whether or not it’s in a power conference.

That is what I thought. I was not sure if SC was actually D1 or some lower level. I did not word my question correctly. But you answered it anyway. Thanks

Feel free to downvote me to oblivion, but part of me thinks that if we snag Mayer and Nance that Goode *might* play more tick than Coleman if Coleman can’t start making 3s. If everything falls into place this is my minutes breakdown

PG: Skyy 28 Epps 12
SG: TSJ 29 RJ 6 Epps 5
SF: RJ 26 Ty 10 Goode 4
PF: Mayer 24 Goode 10 Ty 6
C: Nance 25 Hawkins 8 Dainja 7

^again this is contingent on Goode having a better summer and preseason than Coleman.

Final caveat: I think we’ll get one of Nance/Mayer, but not both. If we get both, Top 10 and another B1G title

Coleman Hawkins will play more than 8 minutes a game... Regardless of who we get.

Coleman, Nance and Dain will all rotate the 4/5. Coleman only getting 8 minutes a game is absurd.

We won’t get both Nance and Mayer like JMoser thought. Therefore there is going to be 20-25 min extra, of which the bulk is going to CH and Dain. I think they kind of fight for those mins.

#286
Just don’t see Mayer as a substitute for Nance as he isn’t going to play the 5. That leaves Hawk as the only backup and always thought it wasn’t a good position for him. Hopefully he has added some bulk and the coaches think he is a viable option. Like Mayer’s game and energy but like Nance’s fit.
I don't see how we lose either way. Both are superb basketball players who would make the team much better. Of course if we got both of them we'd probably be the best team in the nation.

No, not even close. Have you seen how stocked teams like Duke, Kentucky, UNC, Arkansas, etc are?

Extremely unlikely we get both Nance and Mayer. We'd be fortunate to get just one (I prefer Nance as I think he fits what we need perfectly).

Good article from Robert on Ty Rodgers:

"And he's clearly better than Darius Garland"

Love Ayo, but that statement from Robert is just odd. Garland is the best Guard of that whole list.

No such thing as a downvote on Loyalty. Has to be said with words or GIFs:

I think Robert doesn't follow the league and somehow messed up his google search.
which would make it even odder that he's doing assessments of who the best players are 4 years later, but whatevs, no big deal. Speaks really highly of Rodgers to snag an invite all the same. There isn't enough data out there to really back up whether Team USA Invites are a better predictor or future success than Recruiting Site Rankings so I wouldn't make too big a deal out of who is or isn't underranked, but always great when they're looking at our future recruits highly. As far as I'm concerned, once you step on the court, you're just a player now and your recruit rank doesn't matter.

lol yeah, if Underwood recruited Coleman away from entering the Portal and dropped his minutes from 19 MPG to 8 MPG (absent injuries and concussions) at a time when the entire rest of the big man room left, that would be some ultimate Anime Betrayal type thing.
Everyone has to earn their minutes.

There is only one reason that Hawkins gets fewer minutes. It's because he doesn't deserve more. BU's job is to win games. If that's 2 mpg for Hawkins or 30mpg for Hawkins, so be it.

Coaches can promise starts I suppose without too much of a negative result when that player doesn't perform where you need or more likely gets outperformed. But the total minutes played is a different thing altogether.

If it needs to happen, it needs to happen. Would be a pretty shocking development though.

My best guess is that Podz will end up with a nice career in some business and live his life in the Bay area. He will be exposed to a climate change unlike anything he knows...and that in itself will make this move one he will never regret. Plus, he will get to play a lot of hoops against some pretty good competition in Gonzaga, St. Mary's, Brigham Young, and San Francisco....not really much of a step down in competition at all if you are educated in college hoops. But he better get used to driving in traffic much like the Dan Ryan at rush hour. Likely, he will never regret leaving C-U, but we will never know.

Don't know much about Anime, but Hawkins passes the eyeball test. Dain does not. And while I would welcome Dain Dainja to make a great contribution, the fact remains that he has played 9 mins of college ball. 9 minutes. He may be a wide body and getting stronger in the weight room ... but ... 9 minutes.

Hold on to your butt because I'm about to blow your mind. Do you know who has even fewer minutes than Dain coming into this season? All four freshmen. They have 0 minutes. Combined. That's right, 0. And yet, we're expecting major minutes from them, too.

In all seriousness, I think Dain more than passes the eye test. Everything I've seen from him has me extremely excited to see how BU uses him. His versatility, ability to create off the dribble, and shot could make him a very tough matchup for a lot of teams.
