His son was in my graduating class and he was friends with my grandparents, so I knew him reasonably well. He was definitely a bit of a prickly guy to get along with. At the time our head varsity baseball coach was a teacher at Dupo and we had a football coach who taught at Marquette (the high school in Alton). It all seemed very odd to me.

You do realize these guys are all still alive and in the area. Denny's foo foo dog took a crap in my yard yesterday.

I am very much aware, though Bone is AD in Clayton, McFall is retired, and Gresh is still coaching football but a lot balder.

I don't live in town anymore but you could both be my parents' neighbors for all I know.

Tim Pace. Since Father Dennis was part of the 1965 Collinsville HS state championship team, he assuredly felt slighted by Bone being head coach.

You can't escape office politics anywhere. Bob did me a solid when I broke my hand playing football and he pulled some strings to make sure I could still participate in PE with a cast so I would earn that required credit instead of having to take it later.

Graduating the same year as Dennis Pace, but from Paris, I find this interesting. At that time, in our school system anyway, if you participated in a sport, you did not have to take PE. Was wondering if that was the case throughout Illinois at the time, or the option of a school district. Also, if and when this may have changed.

Same for me at Moline High in the late 70’s. Meaning no PE for athletes.

I graduated from O'Fallon in 1994 and throughout my 4 years we had kids that were on all the different sports teams in our PE classes. Maybe that was just O'Fallon or by that time maybe the practice of not requiring PE for kids in sports was stopped.

At Barrington early 80's, if you were a Jr or Sr and on a varsity sport, no PE required during season.

If you grew up in a small bedroom community like Collinsville anywhere from 1947 (Fletchers arrival) to the Kevin Stallings Rick George era 1979 (Fletchers retirement) basketball was the common denominator that joined everybody at the hip. The entire year was watching Kahok BB or talking about Kahok BB, it is all anyone did.
