I know a lot of folks preferred Nance, and he looks more NBA ready to my eyes, but Mayer is really good, and you can't overstate how important it is that he can defend. Losing Kofi in the middle means we're going to need that. And he's good enough from deep to spread the floor. Fantastic pick-up IMO.

There was a hope he was….we made a good offer….went all in on him….put Mayer on the back burner….hence why I thought he was UNC bound when we backed off. We wanted Nance real bad. Pleasantly surprised we got back in there and won this$$$
My thoughts exactly. Glad to be wrong about this one.

Part of me thinks Mayer wanted to beat Nance to the punch here-I still bet he returns to school.

I mean, between the recruiting class and the big name transfers, did anybody have a better off-season than the Illini?
Are we done yet? TSJ was more of a surprise to me than anyone after all the ScuM buzz. Kind of felt good that we would land Mayer or Nance. I feel good about next season but I think we will add at least one more. I would feel good if we could add some guys to develop and learn the system like Dain did this past season. He is who I really looking forward to see what he can do given all the buzz. I am hopeful he is legit given Tim Anderson's statement about him. We really don't know until we do.

The unknowns about Dain and how quickly the freshmen can adapt are my biggest questions. Adding TSJ and Mayer that are proven to go with what we have returning was vital. Great job by the staff. Keep it up.

Think we are most likely done … Brad loves his open rides
If a top 50 player like Gapare or another can reclassify then why not take him, let him get stronger with Fletch, and learn the system? He did with Dain. I know he was a transfer but he used that year to his advantage.
