No mullet seriously dings his downstate street cred.
I am highly offended by this comment as a downstater. Clearly you’ve never been downstate.
How dare you call our gravel roads streets.
I'm told it is all about reading between the lines on this board. Skydub, are you saying that Mayers won't be able to handle the rough Big10?

If we don't add an additional 5 then it would seem likely that Coleman could play a lot if not primarily the 5. I really hope Dain is as advertised. I feel if must be at least defensively or there would be more buzz about adding a someone with a bigger body other than Hawk to help in the post
Are there any guys that could filll this type of role that anyone knows about they are considering? Even with Hawk and Dain it would seem finding even a solid back up big would be ideal. Although Hawk and Meyer are tall at less than 225 lbs defending the post is an issue and will require a lot of double teams. Even though they could cause issues too. Any ideas if they are seriously looking at anyone for that role?

RJ will start next year, I believe.
Most likely the guys that will for sure start ate Skyy, TSJ, and Meyer. I think it's likely that RJ will start but I could say the same about Hawkins. i feel it's highly likely that Dain starts most B10 games too at the 5 simply because of his size and strength especially in the B10 games Maybe we will start a 220lb 5 man and Hawk and RJ will both start. I just doubt it. Plus Hawk will still have to split significant minutes at the 5 as it stands now. Anyway I have doubts we do start both RJ and Hawk unless it's vs teams with a smaller big man at the 5.. Maybe BU will but either way t will be fun to watch
As it stands today either RJ, Hawk, or Dain would have to sit. If Dain is as advertised then which of the three will come off the bench? We can't start six even thought they will all play a lot. Personally I'd start RJ because he can shoot it and we need 10 fouls and bodies at the 5 but what do you think? If we add a big body as a back up to Dain that may change things. Going to be fun.

Insiders have an idea of who besides Nance the staff is looking at?

Really excited about Mayer... like him more than Nance even though we probably need more help at the 5. He always made things happen when he was in, would change the tone of the game.

Yup, and if you have multiple guys who can score off the bounce, then your sharpshooter gets a bigger role when the defense collapses. Not saying it will happen, but I can see a "pure" SG, especially one with size, would have a role on this squad.

Definitely. Plus, Goode isn't a one trick pony (it was a relative comparison to Rodgers).

So many options. I love this team.

Only real “need” on the team is a PG that can handle the hall and play defense. A bit thin at PG if someone were to go down or get in a slump.

Disagree, granted they are freshmen but we 3 but are very skilled, have ability and should be fine at the point. Skyy and Epps are strong guys who it seems are likely to run the show. We only have one true 5 that weighs over 220 or so lbs. That could pose a problem as we advance in the B10 and the NCAA tourney. There is a reason Hawk was our 4th option at the 5 last season. We may not find anyone but the need is far greater at the 5.

Is Morez what we all wanted Egwu to become? Haven't had a stellar defensive big man in a while.
"wanted Egwu to become?" I wanted Egwu to become Kareem Abdul Jabbar. If you're talking about our reasonable expectations for Egwu and for Johnson I'd say that our expectations for Morez are much much higher than the expectations we had for Egwu.

Lieb has been banging with Kofi for at least 2 years...I'm thinking he can eat some minutes if neccessary....

I don't know if it's realistic to expect Hawkins to be a legit 5 defensively. He is our best second option now. He was our 4th option ahead of Lieb at the 5 last season for a reason. If Lieb could do it then he would have played ahead of Omar, BBV, and Hawk last season. I doubt much has changed with Lieb yet It will be necessary to have a quality back up to be a top 10 caliber teams like vs NC and others. I think we will add that person. I just have no idea who that may be . With all due respect to Lieb he has not developed to that level.

Yea this is where we are going to look to Dain.

Dain has 9 college minutes. He is going to need to handle giving us solid minutes, because at 6'9" 250ish...he is the beef to the team. I think Coleman can be a mismatch on offense, but if a team wants to just pound it down low all night...you're looking at Coleman, Dain, Lieb and at times Mayer absorbing that blow. Its going to be alot to ask...but I really do believe in Dain, he has the IQ and the wingspan to be a solid post defender.

I think Rogers is more versatile, but Goode is a sharpshooter. Point is, they bring different stuff to the table.
I have seen Goode be pretty goode as a frosh against B1G competition. Not having seen Rogers compete against competition of that ilk, I will make no comment until it happens. If he can put Goode on the bench, it will be a huge plus for this team....but I am somewhat skeptical that will happen.

Both of them will be coming off the bench.

Not sure how "thin" or lacking in talent this team will be at point guard. There are three pretty highly rated freshmen that will disagree. But for certain, they will enter the season as unproven and inexperienced. As far as raw talent though, they are pretty strong and the situation is far better than in the Groce years. Let's just hope a couple of them can climb the learning curve pretty fast....and I somewhat anticipate that will happen by B1G season.

With the addition on MM and TSJ to go along with Dain as our only true 5 I feel our starters will be Skyy, TSJ, RJ, MM, and Dain. That gives us 4 plus shooters and a true 5.
I hope Hawk is as good as many of you feel he is. He played well down the stretch. He will need to with Goode,Ty, and others challenging at the 4 spot
