I wouldn’t read too much into this. UNC was already involved.
I expected UNC to be involved. Wonder how the fit works at UNC compared to here.

Not enough...All I saw on the Hansberry kid (his highlight tapes) was a 6-7 guy who is strictly a low post scorer. That (if it's accurate) doesn't excite me much. If we got Nance along with Mayer, how much would that piss off UNC?
I hope it doesn’t throw your day off. This isn't directed at you specifically, so I apologize for quoting your post.
How many more times are we going to discuss the NBA draft prospects of a former player in the RECRUITING thread? There has been absolutely nothing new to add to the discussion for months.
The original post expressed concern over our point guard depth. My response was basically that we will have a number of guys who can handle the ball. Overall the 2023 Illini could be a very good ball handling team. We are not looking at 1979 or 1999 all over again. I did not intend for it to turn into who is better, past players or incoming recruits.Sorry, it was originally in reference to new recruits being better at ball handling than TF, Ayo, Belo, and Miller. So originally it was in reference to recruiting.

To quote Meg Ryan from When Harry Met Sally : YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!Oh, please, please, please run our opponents out of the gym with hockey shifts every 5 minutes until they collapse!

With the length, quickness, and depth of talent on this roster I'm hoping Brad and staff incorporate some version of the "40 Minutes of He!!" defense used by Arkansas under Nolan Richardson back in the '90's. I've been avidly following Illinois basketball since I first arrived on campus in the '60's, and to my eye there is potential for this being the most outstanding defensive team that Illinois has ever had. The depth of the squad is key, as intense defense requires the kind of effort that can be exhausting and could require frequent substitutions to keep fresh bodies on the court. Much of Illinois' offense could be generated by turnovers and long rebounds turning into fast break opportunities.
Great defense gives this squad a very high "floor" for next season. I have a harder time guessing at their ceiling until we see them in action. Is there enough shooting? Will they be unselfish enough and have the court vision to get consistently good looks at the basket? Who will step up in big moments? Do we need a true "Alpha" to be great? It's going to be so much fun watching this team answer these questions next season. I can't wait!!
I love how quiet Nance is. No tweet, no big show. Just going about his business.
Maybe I'm the only one, but the only way I like to piss off other teams is by beating them or advancing beyond them in the tournament. All I saw on the Hansberry kid (his highlight tapes) was a 6-7 guy who is strictly a low post scorer. There are so many combinations for the type of teams we will be up against. It is exciting to ponder the possibilitiesIf we do end up with nance, I still want to see what Coleman can do with a larger starting role. Would love to see:
Skyy- TSJ- Mayer- ColeHawk- Nance
And off bench comes
Epps- RJ- Dain-Rodgers-Goode- Harris.
That is just an embarrassment of riches

All of the Illinois transfer commits were extremely quiet…..then boom!
Nah. RJ needs to start IMHO. ColeHawk can be 6th man and still get a good chunk of minutes. Pretty sure Rodgers will get major tick, as well. I think he's the unsung hero of the frosh class (and that's with a stud like Clark doing his thing). If we do end up with nance, I still want to see what Coleman can do with a larger starting role. One of many benefits to “positionless” basketball. Don’t worry about the early season lumps they might take early on. This team will be very good next season. If we got Nance, I actually don’t think we’d have one, clear starting lineup like past years; we’ll have 3-4 guys almost always start and adjust to whom we are playing. As good as we have been the past few years, we have been pretty inflexible … and that’s been especially evident in both NCAAT losses when other teams had us scouted well and took advantage of some of our weaknesses. I think that’s what excites people so much about next year!
Better than Missouri
Gonzaga stacking up.
Agreed … I want Mizzou good enough to sell their half of the Braggin’ Rights crowd and earn the game a national TV slot, but absolutely no better than that!Better than Missouri
