post-up. I think in those must-haves I would look to Dain. I hope Coleman surprises me…but for my $$ it’s Dainja. I see glimmers of Mark Aguirre in Dain in the post. I know we’ve only seen push him around and drop-step 1st year Engineering majors at Ubben thusfar…BUT he looks to have a better repertoire of traditional post moves…and he’s stronger. IMO

On defense we did some no-switch…last year…it will be interesting to see what the governing rules of DaddyBrad’s defense is
with our longer athletic personnel….
this year with Mayer and Shannon and Dainja…(coming from a Baylor and Texas Tech methodology) I really think we’ll see the switch a lot. No baseline?
Coleman and Dainja switching down low could work…you don’t give up much.

Don't you think that if Hawk was able to match up defensively at the 5 last year that he would have been ahead of BBV and Omar in the rotation at the 5. In the limited time he did try to play the 5 on defense he was decided over matched and gave up easy buckets getting backed down. I feel people are drinking Kool Aid thinking that's changed. I listen to WDWS and Tate and Kelly agree as well. I don't see Hawkins as a string defender at the 5 like he can be at the 4. Hopefully he is much bigger and stronger just a few. Months later otherwise we need some beef vs some of the elite teams with guys like NC, Purdue, ScuM, and others.

Kofi played 31 mpg last year. So the remaining 9 min/game is a pretty small sample size to draw from. And if I recall, when BBV and Payne came in for Kofi, we usually had Hawk at the 4 to compensate for the size we lost without Kofi on the floor.

Hawk at 6;10 225 matches up fine with most Centers in college ball. For guys like Ekey, even Kofi had a hard time with him. So the key may not be trying to get even bigger (impossible), but try to make them play our style (which likely will be fast). If we need someone bulkier at Center, Dain will play more.

I'm not sure why any of these guys would care whether they are labeled a 4 or 5. In a Post-Kofi Era all that means is you are guarding the other teams biggest dude. On offense it won't matter what your number assigned number is, these guys aren't going to post-up just because they are labeled the 5.

Can an incoming Freshman enter the transfer portal and be eligible immediately, or do they have to ask for release, and then get a waiver from NCAA. Not that he will, or would ever fancy the idea of playing for the beloved, but gotta feel for Jaden Schutt...he was already going to face tough times to see the court, but especially now.

Can we also just take a moment to stop and appreciate how superbly conditioned Kofi was to play 3 MPG at his size? Most centers stick around 25-28 and I thought Nanna was a force at around 30.

One thing I will be watching closely next year is how effective Edey can be with extended minutes. He only had to play about 20 last year with Williams but not sure he can play much more than that and still be effective.

I can’t wait for next year. I get why media is overlooking us given how much we lost but with our length and athleticism we should run a lot of teams off the floor and be a holy terror on defense!

No. Anyone entering the portal at this late date must sit out a year unless they get a waiver from the NCAA. It's anyone's guess how the waiver requests will go under this new system.

Playing Coleman at the 5 last year meant putting him alongside 6'6" *slim* Jake, 6'3" DMW, 6'1" Plummer or Belo, and 6'1" Frazier. Of course that didn't work and we didn't use that look. It took a bit for things to click but Iowa went on a hell of a run with the biggest rotation guy being 6'9" 222lbs. Even got a win against a Purdue team that we, with our "beef" in the middle, couldn't. Why do you think those types of lineups can work for other teams but not for us?

Why? He knew exactly what he’s getting into by signing with Duke. Battling multiple 5* for playing time is part of the deal. I’m sure he thinks he’s up for the challenge too.

Sure. He does right now. Let’s see if he does after a year when they bring in another set of five stars. My guess is he hits the portal at some point. Schemer is recruiting so well.

That’s precisely my point. He knows Duke is going to bring in 5* players every year. So why do you gotta feel for him?

There is an obvious solution. Instead of a 4 and a 5, we should play two 4.5s. No one has to be a 5.
