Is that a new uniform in the bottom right? I like it
No, that's one of the uniforms in the current rotation. We just don't see it worn that often. Here's Ayo wearing it

Ever feel like it's all coming together? From an Illini hoops perspective, these are heady days. Let the good times roll.
A few weeks ago we had 4 returning players with hardly any D1 playing experience (when added up). Now we have two really good upperclassmen coming via the portal with a ton of high-major and NCAA tourney experience. And they look to be perfect fits both culture and basketall-wise. Making us legit favorites in the Big Ten (at least top 3). And of course we have another stellar recruiting class coming in, which is now the norm.
It's intoxicating.

It's a fever dream...and it's happening! Huge kudos to staff and our boosters. We're the ones who knock.

Imagine if on top of all that you just said we actually do get Neat Pants.

I agree with a lot of your post, but I'm not convinced this part about needing a back to the basket big when the game slows down holds up anymore. Even when a game slows down, it's more about whether you can beat guys off the dribble and get to the rim and/or your spots. Having a back to the basket big didn't help us last year. What we were missing was our Ayo that could beat a guy 1-on-1 and get to his midrange. Take the '21 Baylor team as another example: they didn't have a traditional big but they had two great guards that could generate 1-on-1 offense. Davion seemed like he could get to the hoop whenever he wanted to on their NC run. Even UNC and Kansas this year, playing with traditional bigs in the NC game, relied on those guys less for post-generated offense and more for offensive rebounding and put backs. It was Remy Martin/Agbaji and Love/RJ generating looks for both teams when the game got tight. That's why not having an old-fashioned big but having a guy that can hit 3s (and offensive as rebound) is probably better for the late game offense, eg, your Jaylin Williams-type bigs popping to the perimeter leaves your JD Notae's with a much clearer path to the Ibasket.

No, it’s about solid execution in your half-court set. Usually the defensive breakdown in the half court occurs because the defense can’t guard multiple actions at the same time. AND when you have multiple attacks…so much the better. That keeps the defense guessing and honest. I don’t think I’m familiar with a basketball game in my whole life…where there are wasn’t at least a couple post feeds. Or a high post flash or something… I mean come on. Even in a 5-out type offense some traditional post skills are useful…if you’ve got a mismatch aren’t you gonna wanna take advantage and back somebody down…whoever it is? Might be a guard…who knows. Why rule things like that out? This idea that a post up is some antiquated thing is garbage…why? because 5-out basketball is in vogue? That shouldn’t mean one facet of the game goes away… It’s part of the game. Why does everyone seem to think it’s either or?

2.) Having a back to the basket big didn't help us last year...
I’m gonna give you the benefit of the doubt on this and assume you’re not meaning big picture…otherwise? I’d say our traditional All-American BIG certainly helped us win the BIGTen. Obviously we needed what Ayo provided…ALSO. (penetration, floaters, pull up jumpers…etc.) You remember what it was like B.K.? (Before Kofi) right?
3.)Davion seemed like he could get to the hoop whenever he wanted
Well if it was always that simple, sure. You can’t count on any one thing being there all the time. You want the most weapons, or means of scoring you can get…period.
That’s why every set play worth a grain of salt has about 4 options a couple counters and the freedom to read and react to it. You never know what is gonna be there.

There’s just no way of knowing that for sure. Btw. I never said late game situations. I said: being able to get a post up sometimes. If the other team is playing solid team D. You aren’t supposed to be able to beat them off the dribble if your opponent can play solid team D.
(Really what I should of said…you need to be able to establish the post as a weapon at the very least.)

About this terminology. Nance and Dainja could probably play the high post in a sort of motion offense and be effective. Remember two years ago, when Loyola schooled us in the NCAA tourney with that "point center" offense. The guy wasn't all that big, but big enough to pull Kofi out of the blocks and then make precision passes to guys who were making backdoor cuts? There are many ways to do this.

0k, I have to ask the question. How is the relation with Jake and the staff right now... You think JG would really head to Mich? That would be a strong statement.. jmo
Jake made a business decision to explore the draft. Illinois didn't know if he was coming back and made a business decision to replace his spot. He is going to make a decision now based on what's best for him. If he feels that's Michigan, then that's his prerogative. He isn't going to choose a school to spite the staff

Correct, the NIL$$$ is 6 figures plus on Jake. Why not stay in school for that number.
