Its underwhelming.
but to do a fresh endzone in a year or two is easy and not expensive. I have to count on that for now
changing midfield logo also not hard nor expensive to do

Sorry, missed that this was already known. I really can't believe they kept the chalk outline Illinois. It's always looked incomplete.

Don't really see a big deal here. I'd rather see a good product on the field than a wonderful field design than a creative turf look and a poor excuse for the team who plays on it. If we can start consistently winning the rest will take care of itself. Go Illini. Looking forward to the future of the program.

Different resources for each. It's time for a new font, this one smells like Mike Thomas.

I like it. I do not see why people are having an issue here. The design of the field will not get us wins, talent will.
Having a good field design doesn't mean we can't have talent and win games and vice versa. It's possible to do multiple things at once. Part of being successful is sweating the details. For me, the font is awful. It's neither classic nor unique. There's a reason why the basketball team has moved away from it. In a perfect world, the end zones would utilize the script font. It's classic. It would unify the basketball and football teams. It's an obvious choice. Look at that. It's beautiful.

Ransom, I agree. And that smell stinks to high Heaven. Every time I see that font or that ridiculous train shield logo, I think of Thomas and Beckman. I have refused to buy anything Illini with them on it. These two men and their clown show/disastrous time here will be linked in my memory with that Nike garbage for the rest of my life. We have been fighting for six years so far to recover from the years they set back Illini Athletics in every aspect. A new font style and a renewed emphasis of the block I with visibility on new uniforms and fields and courts and everything Illini related can not come soon enough for me.

Does this mean they got new turf with the same paint scheme?

Look at how much bigger the lower decks of the west/east sides look than the horseshoe … you can kind of see “what could be” at the corners before it cuts back. It infuriates me how much better our stadium would look if they’d move those seats down to field level. Even if it’s temp bleachers.

And all that empty space between the horseshoe and the field tends to go pretty unused on game days. Having the crowd closer to the end zone potentially helps home field advantage a little bit and just makes a better viewing experience. There has to actually be a crowd but it's the idea that matters.

I don’t know where else to put this, but as I sit contemplating college football season coming up in Chicago…

1) I literally cannot wait for the day when Illinois consistently wins 6-9 games and is at least known as a consistently competitive program with fans that care. I’m so jealous of other B1G fans who base their falls and Thanksgiving weekends around football, whereas most of us have checked out before the latter. I’m always in Iowa City at my parents’ around Thanksgiving, and it’s so depressing seeing what a big deal the Iowa/Nebraska game is and what a fun atmosphere it is.

Mike Thomas sucked, but his Illini/NU at Soldier Field idea wasn’t as terrible as it sounds … we just sucked, and NU has no fans. Imagine an Illini program so consistently good that UI fans in the Chicago area planned their Thanksgiving traditions around a weekend in the city and a Saturday game at Soldier Field. A guy can dream.

2) At the same time, our fans are criminally underrated. Get a band opponent on a SEMI-nice day and an Illinois team that looks like it could win more than 4 games, and you’ll have 48k in Memorial Stadium … that might not sound like that many, but it’s 80% of our capacity!! Give us even a glimmer of hope, and we clear 55k easily and will sell out a big game. That is frankly ASTONISHING given the misery we have all experienced as fans. It gives me so much hope for the day we finally have a proud football program … Memorial Stadium and Grange Grove are such sleeping giants for absolute “can’t miss” road trips for Big Ten fans.

Desperately hope BB is the guy to deliver us from the wilderness!

As someone who was a student at UI in the '80s, it's still hard to believe how far we've fallen, and for how long. Those Saturdays were electric.

Totally on same page w/ your 2nd point, but vehemently opposed to your first. I never got the allure of giving up true home games for neutral site ones. The home game experience is precious and limited as it is, don't whittle it down any further!
