His foot speed looks incredible. He has the intangibles, it will come down to the coaching staff working on his footdrills in the pocket to prevent him from getting "happy feet." Looks like the coaching staff got a jump on this kid because I look for him to get a lot more exposure in the next year.
is he still playing 8 man football?

No. He actually plays in a pretty good conference. I really like this commit and others will be offering him. Lunney knows what he's doing. Also, his dad played safety for the Sooners.

As do I. Between Swanson and the PWO from Austin who tried baseball, this is the best incoming non-transfer QB class since Nate. Yeah, low bar, but still.

We went 5-7 last year with Peters and Sitkowski(so far for him) having exactly the same career Big Ten passing completion at 51.9%. I am not expecting miracles even this year but BB is turning this ship around. Get rid of a minor league OC in Peterson after one year and bringing in Lunney Jr was tremendous. Lunney Jr has been on the job a bit over 5 months and making the rounds. Staff can recruit future QB classes but we will need under the radar and transfers for a few years. Just the way it goes when the top guys from year ahead and some even two years out are locked into schools who have recruited them for years prior. Honestly, we have landed a number of guys in the 60-80 range anyways who never panned out. I have been drinking the water since BB took over and refilling since Lunney Jr was hired.

Staff needs to survive this weekend (visit to Wisconsin). Staff has been (understandably) scuffling when facing off against Wisconsin in a recruiting battle. Need to break through and win one of these. Going to be an uphill battle w/ Howard. Get him and you instantly feel great about the defensive line's future (when including Harkless).

Wisconsin locked up Collin Dixon on his official there was at Illinois last weekend not really surprising but not ideal

I’m not as knowledgeable about football restricting, so … are we actually dead last in recruiting so far under BB? I know they got a late start, but Underwood taught us that “coaching them up” can only go so far. At some point, you need an infusion of talent.

I’m likely no more knowledgeable about FB recruiting than you, but I think “coaching them up” and developing players physically can have a greater impact in football than bball — especially at certain positions. That said, we certainly need to keep raising the bar on the talent coming in too. I have faith that BB and company are doing that (though maybe not at the rate we’d like) and will continue to do so.

I'm no recuiting guru, but that's hardly necessary to realize how far down in a hole the program was when BB took over. It's pretty clear that he's assembled a good, hard working staff, but climbing out of that hole is a years long process.

BB and staff are doing good considering how LS coached so poorly. As of today the ILLINI have 8 commitments. IMO, 5 of the recruits ( Hayden, Aamland, Farrell, Jackson and Swanson will be rated higher when it's said and done. I have watched their highlights and came away impressed. IDK if any of the people that do the ratings even watched Cal Swanson, the kid is good and will be re-rated. Jackson has too many great offers to be rated that low. Farrell, Hayden and Aamland are all solid 85+ recruits. Heck, I can even say McMillen and Harless are under-rated. Somewhere I read that McMillen should be a 4* recruit and Harkless has too many great offers to be at 85.11

These things will continue to mystify me. 2025 Geneva WR Talyn Taylor received 3 B1G offers yesterday after a camp performance. Iowa, Minny, and Wisconsin. For a program that wants to lock down state borders, we seem to be fairly late in offering studs vs. our nearest competition. We don't really have the luxury to not take advantage of the natural (geography) resources that we have
