That kids mobility looks terrible, even for a big guy.
agreed. But he's sooo young. Needs to get beyond some of that baby fat. We know he can dunk against smaller players, but that's about it.

Some of us are told to forget about Nance. I will do that on the day he publicly declares his decision. Until that time comes, I'll continue to hold out hope.

The basketball model is 5 long players who can switch almost everything and can shoot. This roster fits that model well. Does the team really need another 7' player to take up space? Watching the NBA finals shows that "big men" like Horford, Green, Robert Williams and Looney are the present. "Big men" must move on offense in the pick and roll. And must defend ball screens with minimizing drop coverage. In my opinion any other type of "big man" recruit doesn't make sense. Rebound by committee and run slower teams off the court. I'm hopeful the future is now with this team and don't want to see any recruiting that sets us back into a slow position limited team any time soon.

Here's a hot take: Weber was a fantastic X's and O's coach who failed to win at the recruiting game because he wouldn't play it the way needed to be successful. Remember when Derrick Rose and company visited him and his team (brother I think?) asked him, "What can you do for us?" Weber left the room. His integrity was a huge part of his downfall.

Agreed. It’s a sad statement, but coaching big time college basketball is tough for guys like that.

But with Weber, he just kept whining about it, which became obnoxious. He knew he was working in a profession of vipers. Guys like Sampson are the norm in college ball. If you’re going to coach at this level, you have to accept that opposing coaches are going to pull every nasty trick in the book. And not (publicly) get bent out of shape.

Yall will always find a way to look at the negative, even after everything BU has done. Brad is getting paid millions to figure out if a players fits, you're not. So let's pump the brakes on judging a kid before he even commits to play for us.

Also, I'm sorry not everyone has their life figured out at 14-18 years old like some of you apparent prodigies did.
Upvoted for proper use of "brakes"

Am I the only one that looks at Duke and realizes that regardless of recruiting class now that expecting a guy that has never coached a game will personally watch the prestige of Duke decline slowly each year that K is gone. The chances that he's going to pull an Izzo and build an empire without previously coaching a game is looking pretty slim. I guess 17 and 18 year olds don't know their history with basketball programs (Wooden, Knight, etc.) and what happens after they leave (gradual decline). Blue Bloods will always be towards the top in name recognition, but not in the NET or Rankings.

Let me go on record that I like the UNC coach personally, but he was just able to close the deal on the natty (unlike Weber). That's the only difference. Will be interesting to see what happens to that program over the next few years as well.

I think Weber is the better coach. Groce is still improving and may close the gap. But Weber crashed a Benz and Groce totaled a Kia. I’m not sure which is worse, but I’m glad Underwood has the wheel now.
The day Weber failed to land Sherron Collins to replace Dee IMO was the beginning of that crash. Recruiting downturn until Snacks arrived.

Exactly. Groce’s tenure was undoubtedly worse, but that’s not a fair comparison. I’m positive Groce would not have coached the 2005 group as flawlessly as Weber, but … I’m not 100% convinced 2006-07 Illinois head coach John Groce takes us downhill as quickly as Weber, either.

They have way too much talent to not be really good. Their 2022 class has the #1, 2, and 5 players in the country. These are guys that would likely be playing in the NBA if there were no rules on going from HS. And that’s what their classes generally look like every year. Their talent blows away any of the teams we’ve had in my 40+ years of being a fan.

That said, I do agree with you about the hire. It would have made sense to get someone that’s been a head coach before.

I was listening to sports talk this morning and it was mentioned by Kendrick that the Alexander has an in with a 6'10" guy from France but he didn't say a name. We shall see.

With the momentum of 2001-2005 behind him, Groce would have recruited at a very high level. Post-2005 he would have been far more successful than Weber

dumb question - is there a cutoff to adding an additional player? Right up until the start of school?
