They have way too much talent to not be really good. Their 2022 class has the #1, 2, and 5 players in the country. These are guys that would likely be playing in the NBA if there were no rules on going from HS. And that’s what their classes generally look like every year. Their talent blows away any of the teams we’ve had in my 40+ years of being a fan.

That said, I do agree with you about the hire. It would have made sense to get someone that’s been a head coach before.
Gran,
Forgive me. I should have clarified AFTER the K hysteria dies down and these 3 guys go to the NBA, the world will get to see Scheyer's coaching acumen. I guess I am going off of K's coaching tree. That has me stained a bit.

You had me confused on your first post Noble.

K's tree is indeed questionable. At the same time, Duke has established some high level graft even before NIL. I expect the talent to be higher than Snyder, Collins, Dawkins, et al had ever put together. He's likely to do well, although I don't know how many teams in the 10-25 range in a row their fan base will tolerate.

Feel like Jake made a business decision. Can probably make more in NIL from Duke than playing over seas. It’ll be tough rooting for Duke so I’ll just have to root for him individually.

Sorry if this has already been posted here. It's a Michigan guy that's actually giving our ILLINI some love.

Watch some Miami or Texas Tech game film from last year … Both teams made Sweet 16 …

Especially Tech … Biggest guy on the court 95% of the time is 6’8

Yeah, his take is staggeringly simplistic.
Thinking that 6'6" guys can't rebound against a team with one 7'0" dude? GTFO.

Tall dudes have an advantage going over the top and usually have more !!! to move an opponent. That bodes well for some of the 20% of rebounds that bounce in their direction, regardless of block-outs. Every other rebound is up for grabs, where standing height is not a big factor.

Since it's Duke I'm going out on a limb and predict that he'll get a waiver so that he is eligible next year.

I'm happy for Jake and grateful for his substantial contribution to our success the past two seasons. Good for him. I wish him all the best on the court and in the classroom.

In his honor I'll post a favorite GIF of mine: his backdoor alley oop from Ayo in the BTT semifinal beatdown of Iowa in 2021, completely scorching a clueless Connor McCaffery:
