Would be surprised if they take a guy like this. Expect future bigs to be 4’s who can guard a center. But maybe that’s just how it worked out this year and they will recruit another Kofi like man if available. May depend on level of success this year.
Kofi developed into a monster that somehow managed to play 30 mpg and avoid serious injuries. The downside to his dominance is that the staff had to adjust the offense to fit his strengths. I’d take a poor man’s Kofi just to be able to throw a different look for 10-15 mpg. The more diverse weapons the better.

Depending on how good Mayer is on the wing, how good Hawkins is at the 4, etc.

But it’s either RJ or ColeHawk as 6th man it would seem. If Dain is that solid at 5.

Do we want someone who could play 2-4 first off the bench of someone who can play 4-5?

Also not having a true sub for the 5 could push ColeHawk to the bench even if having RJ as a more versatile sub might make more sense for 6th man.

Can’t see us starting both Dain and Hawk, unless we somehow add a good Big. I’m guessing they’re on the court together at most 10 min/game. If all healthy, it seems your starting 5 is Skyy, TSJ, RJ, Mayer, and either Hawk or Dain.

Having no dog in the race, it will be interesting and unpredictable to see a) who takes the floor on opening game b) who takes the floor in first B1G game, and c) who takes the floor for the first rd. NCAA tourney game...if there is one. I would bet they are not the same...in fact...there is little chance of that happening IMHO for many reasons.

But wouldn’t that mean four guys changing their offense to mesh with a guy willing to play 10-15 minutes? If it were that easy they would have changed to utilize Omar more effectively.

Dainja is the starting 5

Quite possibly. But most here realize it's a new system. You gotta stop thinking in terms of numbers. Coleman can really push Dain for the "big" position, especially in certain matchups, because he runs the floor better and is a bit more versatile. It's point or combo guard, wings, and "big."

No Bates. He is not being recruited by Illinois. Word was they declined to pursue him after he quit Memphis and they went 15-2 without him.

Illinois does not have a spot for him.
I'm happy we aren't going after him, but are you alluding to we no longer have any schollies left? If so, big names, or project backups?

I’m thinking in terms of what the coaching staff says…..
Whatever the "coaching staff says" you can be certain that it will change in the coming months as they watch players develop and see how they interact with other teammates. Then the games will start and a whole new level of adjustment and evaluation will ensue. These coaches don't have enough information right now to say who is starting. Anything they say is "If the season started right now..." type of stuff.

Defense and rebounding will determine minutes. Lots of offensive talent on this team.

LOL, lecturing the one guy on here that shares legit inside information on how he should think about basketball.
