I’ll take my chances. He will struggle having to defend away from the hoop.1 and he's still at Purdue. Maybe if we run enough circles around him he will elbow himself in the face.

I'm not worried about scoring on him. I am a little worried about stopping him.I’ll take my chances. He will struggle having to defend away from the hoop.
If we got the talent we think we have, it will be a wash at worst. We can’t guard him. He can’t guard us. But some of ours will be 3s. All of his will be 2s.I'm not worried about scoring on him. I am a little worried about stopping him.
That is assuming hawk hits a reasonable number of outside shots. If hawk hit 35% of his 3’s it opens up the lane. If his % remains the same as last year Others will look at the Houston film and decide defensive schemes.Also, CH will be more valuable at the 5 this year because we have more dynamic scorers. CH will pull bigs out of the paint and we have more guys that can take advantage of that this year.
This will work as long as our bigs shoot well from the perimeter....if shots aren't falling then it will be one and done....very little offensive rebounding for 2nd chance ptsAlso, CH will be more valuable at the 5 this year because we have more dynamic scorers. This point is so critical. Hawkins is not a power player and absolutely needs to be able to hit a dependable and high percentage from 25 ft and in, especially pull-ups around the free throw line. Last year he would shoot stationery/unguarded threes and made some...but was far from a threat. I do not recall a single drive and pull-up from 12 ft. which was open to him all year. It takes repetition and confidence with a little technical work on his release but he can be a dependable shooter. When added to his quickness, handle, and willingness to give up the ball to open teammates he definitely has the game to make and NBA roster. If he can become a much better shooter and continue to improve his strengths, he can be the star of this team and open up his future as a basketball player.That is assuming hawk hits a reasonable number of outside shots. Recognize roster is completely turned over and new roster will be better at taking the ball to the hoop, beating their man 1x1, and at best their 3 point percentage will be equal to last years team
Agree the potential of this team is higher than last years team
Agreed, it's sad but I feel like there is a very high chance this is his last season here.Hawkins:
1) has a big season and goes pro;
2) has an ok season and transfers; or
3) has an ok season and stays
No idea how his season will go, but I'm thinking option 3 is less probable than the others, perhaps far less.
Long shots usually lead to long rebounds. We are going to have length all over the court. I doubt rebounding will be a huge issue.This will work as long as our bigs shoot well from the perimeter....if shots aren't falling then it will be one and done....very little offensive rebounding for 2nd chance pts
All the same I'd love to get the Perrin kid. Haugh (sp?) looks very athletic but needs a prep school/red shirt year to add strength for the rigors of the Big Ten. Keeping two schollies open during next year is one too many when there's a need. Of course, maybe Lieb will THE guy, and of course the coaches are aware of all this.Long shots usually lead to long rebounds. We are going to have length all over the court. we'd get called for all the reach-in fouls inside and for all the perimiter contact on the guards.st. peter's wrote the book on how to play against edey, they turned him into a huge liability in that game

Would rather see RJ, Mayer and Skyy taking the shots so I see #1 as less likely. CH adds value by hitting the boards, playing good switching D and by being a safety valve 4th option scorer.Hawkins:

One of our "insiders" said as much.Agreed, it's sad but I feel like there is a very high chance this is his last season here.

100%. Coleman has to hit those open 3's when the defense dorks him. If he does, look out for the cutters and slashers having room to operate in the lane. IMO keeping two schollies open verges on coach malpractice. This last year is a perfect example of how injuries can deplete you - we started with 14 scholarship players yet we had depth problems (especially in the backcourt) for much of the season. If you can add a PF/C who has any chance of helping, you gotta do it. Another guard wouldn't be a bad idea either, though not as worried there because guards can typically play >35 min/game if necessary.All the same I'd love to get the Perrin kid. Just a conversation continuer... and we DON'T need Bates!
I think that’s probably only a cause of action in KY and KS. Maybe IN.IMO keeping two schollies open verges on coach malpractice.

Key contributors will be the confidence BU shows in Hawk this year and who we bring in for 2023, but if I had to guess right now I’d agree. Hopefully we see Joel’s scenario 1 happen.Agreed, it's sad but I feel like there is a very high chance this is his last season here.
