Hot take alert: If the ghost of Illini basketball yet to come were to visit me and show me a future where BU's career at Illinois is identical to Painter's, I'd say just go ahead and fire up the coach search thread now.

Yes, Painter has had a very respectable tenure, but we can and have done better. We need to aim for something more akin to MSU, Louisville, peak Syracuse, Donovan's Gators, or early 00's Illini.

FTR I think Underwood is the right person to lead us there.

Anyways, recruiting is fluid.

BU seems to be heading towards the good MSU teams. But those teams often had multiple McdAA. Will need to have Morez, James Brown, Bryce Heard, McKenny type players to go along players like Ty, Clarke, Melendez stay a couple years. Sincere, Epps and Goode can also end up being top college players.

As far as I’m concerned, BU only has one true slip-up: 2021 Loyola. While we didn’t look prepared in 2022, we won the game we were supposed to and lost a pick ‘em 4/5 Second Round game to an underseeded team while we weren’t 100%. The foundation of a program looks more like mid-2000s Illini, IMO!
