We’ll see what happens but from what I’m reading the Loosiers are thinking they should be as good as they were a few years ago. I’m not so sure.

The best thing we have going for us is the most competent coaching staff since the Mike White era. I like our chances and wouldn’t be surprised by a grind it out 24-10 win by the beloved.

So many new faces on IU roster will be interesting how they play together as a team. Having that first game I believe was very helpful for the good guys. I will be at the game Friday.

I think the bigger concern might be the pass rush ends up making the coverage look bad.
Agreed but did we bring any pressure beyond the D line last week? I don't remember any blitz packages. Hopefully the defensive scheme can generate pressure from different levels

I honestly think the line is off by 17 again. With a capable QB and better offensive coaching, a stifling defense and a game under their belts, I would bet Illini -14.
I'm not feeling real good about this game.

It wouldn't be week 1.5 if we weren't all feeling both of these things depending on the hour of the day.

It's nerve wracking how little we will know about the team as of midday Friday, and how much we will know just 8 days later. Measuring stick time, hold onto your butts.

Yep, I feel way more nervous than I ever thought I would have in a coach's second year where we lost a lot of production and we are about to play Indiana in our second game ... but here we are, because a win would be SO encouraging! To be hosting Virginia as an unbeaten with a conference win would put my excitement at irresponsible levels. :D As others have said - just win, baby!

Illinois called off the dogs last week. We could have won that game by more but I loved that we got more players into the game.

BB and staff had plenty of time to watch tape to rip some butts on those blown coverages when the QB took off. This HAS to be fixed. An agile QB is deadly in the college game. Also think Ryan Walters is great at adjusting the D during the game plus think they held back different schemes last week and played more vanilla because they could. No point in showing your cards the first week of the season.

Interesting that both OC and DC are on the sidelines during the game ....Used to be routine for both coordinators to be up in the boxes , but I like that our guys are down on the field....

I was surprised when I saw Lunney down there. I thought sure he'd be the eye in the sky.

Since I am always talking about the all-time series records in the basketball threads, I thought I would mention that Indiana is one of the few Big Ten opponents that we have an all-time winning record against ... so let's keep it that way!!

vs. Indiana: 44-24-3
vs. Rutgers: 5-3
vs. Northwestern: 56-54-5
vs. Iowa: 38-37-2  gonna have to win in Iowa City this year to keep this one alive!
vs. Purdue: 45-46-6 ... so close to keeping this one even last year!
vs. Wisconsin: 38-44-7
vs. Minnesota: 31-40-3 ... hilariously, Bret is 8-0 vs. the Gophers, including last year ... they must hate that!
vs. Michigan State: 19-26-2
vs. Ohio State: 31-68-4
vs. Michigan: 23-71-2
vs. Nebraska: 5-13-1
vs. Penn State: 6-20
vs. Maryland: 0-2

Can you imagine what these would have looked like before our utterly awful previous two decades? We have lost 8 in a row to Iowa, for example - we must have REALLY been dominating that series at one point! I also know we were leading vs. Wisconsin and Purdue until relatively recently.

How? How have we never beaten Maryland? Those are two losses in recent years I'd like to have back. Also yes, its remarkable that schools like Iowa and Wisconsin we used to dominate. Can the tides be reversed? Or is it too hard to change college football equilibrium these days?

Everyone, I've given it some thought since the end of the game on Saturday, and feel pretty strongly:

it'd be cooler if we won.
A whole lot cooler.

Iowa and Wisconsin were usually mediocre to poor from at least the early '60s to when Hayden Fry ('79) and Barry Alvarez ('90?) showed up and the programs subsequently did 180s that they've sustained to this day. Not completely hapless but in the neighborhood.
