Illinois 9, Iowa 6 Postgame

Oh man. I missed my chance. I was at a wedding today with a bunch of cousins who are IA fans. I didn't bother to check on the score. I could have been absolutely obnoxious. Oh well. They are family even if misguided.

We've now allowed 48 points in 6 games.

I want to go back and count the number of individual games in my lifetime where we've allowed 48 points, but I don't want to be up all night.
I couldn't watch the game as I was at dinner with friends. Got into my car with 5 mins left in game and listened to Brian & Martin as I drove. By the time I got home and dialed up the postgame radio show and Loyalty page my adrenaline was through the roof. So I've spent the last half-hour going back through MY lifetime (57 seasons) in your service. :)

I've highlighted the top 5. 2022 is historic by a fair margin, though Tepper's '94 D was apparently no slouch.

One thought and one question about special teams. Hugh was very Blake-like tonight … I hope that continues. Does anyone live in Champaign who could go measure Fabrizio’s balls? My gut tells me he might be #1 in NCAA football for biggest balls. A redshirt freshman goes 3 for 3 on FGs in a 9-6 game to beat Iowa in front of the biggest MS crowd in years? I know they weren’t long FGs, but I don’t care, he nailed all 3. Are you kidding me?
Pinton said when interviewed that he was just doing his job...................cool , calm and collected........................

When I got in my car at 10:30 p.m. ET tonight after spending four hours at dinner with friends, and dialed up Brian & Martin's broadcast on my phone for the final five minutes of the 4Q, if you had told me (1) Spencer Petras is on his way to a 170 yd passing night; (2) Devito and Iasaih went down and out early; (3) we're using our backup placekicker; and (4) we've scored nine points, I would not have been optimistic, and probably would have assumed we missed an extra point.

But DAY-UM: that D. :illinois:

Thought this was great.
Credit Walters’ D of course for making all your good options seem like bad options, but Wisconsin and Iowa, two teams we’re used to playing dead solid know-your-identity football just kept making baffling decisions the last couple weeks.

There is no way they don’t have someone who gives them a better chance to be productive than Petras.

Injuries might hurt us down the stretch here but honestly this was a program altering win. Taking down Wisconsin and Iowa for the first time in a decade in the same year? This is truly special stuff Bielema is doing for us right now. Walters is probably gone next year with the way he has this defense playing, it's unbelievable. All in all this is the Illinois football Brad Underwood moment. Brad dragged Illini basketball up kicking and screaming from the basement and has us at the level where we are consistently competing with the top of the B10 every single year. Chase Brown is the new Ayo Dosunmu, and he's leading this team to victory every single week.
