I'm hopeful that TDV will be able to play. I assume that it was a twisted ankle or minor ankle sprain and they put in Art because they didn't want to play someone who wasn't 100% when they believe they have a good choice at back-up.
Otherwise, I'm confused on how this played out. I'm familiar with the RICE method for injuries like this, but not the RIDE method, i.e. ride a bike and walk around. I'm not an expert in first aid though.

For those that don't want to watch the video:

- Griffin is out again this weekend.
- The Dark Angel will be back.
- Very promising that IW is back.
- Promising that Nicholson will be back.
- TDV is able to do some things at practice (didn't sound as promising as the previous two).

IW helps the Art situation a lot. He wouldn't be out there if he's not full go, and if he's full go you can sprinkle a bit of wildcat in there for him, along with the usual end-around counters and wrinkles that are a pretty fundamental part of what we do.

By Anderson Kimball Decatur (Ill.) Herald & Review

MINNEAPOLIS — Illinois athletics director Josh Whitman stood at center court at the Target Center to field questions at Big Ten basketball media days, but with recent success, football is what took center stage.
Whitman, a tight end for the Illini from 1997-2000, hired Bret Bielema and the Illini’s coaching staff after the 2020 season, and now, Illinois is 5-1 and ranked for the first time in 11 years.

He saw a program that was in search of a new coach when he was hired and won a combined five games in the first two seasons with his first hire, Lovie Smith. Whitman pivoted to Bielema, and the rebuild took off.
“I’ve said that however many times in the years leading up to this that when we started to achieve at the level that we expected that it would be that much sweeter knowing where we started,” Whitman said. “I hope our fans feel that way. I know I feel that way. I know people inside the program have felt that way. We just have to just every once in a while take a moment to appreciate where we are and what we’re doing.”
Illinois is off to its best start since 2011, and now, Whitman has seen hires for both men’s basketball with Brad Underwood and football with Bielema rise from the bottom of the Big Ten to become competitive.
Gotta love what Whitman's done and his attitude. No success over night, but working hard and moving things forward constantly. I don't think you can blame him for the Lovie hire, it seemed like a great choice at the time. But it definitely looks like he's got it right with Bielema. An Illini fanbase which sees yearly bowls and tournament games is a happy fanbase.

Saturday morning:

Don't worry Minny, TDV isn't going to play. We're going to play things safe and....

WAIT! Is that Tommy DeVito's music???? OHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

p.s. what do we think Tommy DeVito's into music would be?

My game plan assuming Tommy is still limping even if he is cleared to play

1. Start Art but be very conservative to avoid turnovers.

2. Run first and 2nd down. Force Minnesota to stop Chase.

3. If we are at 3rd and long have Art throw the ball downfield. He does not have Tommy's touch or timing on short passes. He forces the ball into coverage and is not accurate when scrambling. He should throw the ball away if the first read is not there.

4. Do not call any QB running plays. Art is not very fast and is fumble prone.

5. Practice IW (or somebody else) with wild cat this week. Use this 3rd down if Art is struggling.

6. Get the 3rd string QB some reps. Remember Art got injured last year.

7. If we are behind by 7 points OR more in 3Q put Tommy in.

Excellent write up here -Surprisingly never read the Numbers up Numbers articles:

It does show Minny @ #14. Given that, their off week, Illinois' meatgrinder vs. Iowa, dinged up team - it will be a very very tough game for Illinois to win. The odds are definitely not in their favor. Don't jump off a bridge if Illinois loses. They'll be back looking good vs. Nebraska.

But if Illinois happens to win, just an FYI, the West team is the visiting team in Indy. Consider that when purchasing tickets.

We will be playing in front of full(?) stadium at home for the possibly the B10 west championship. Brett will have the team ready. Compared to past 8 years of Beckman/Smith lameball I am so pumped.

Illinois 13 Minnesota 10.

I am travelling to wedding in Houston. Do they have B10 network at my hotel? Otherwise I will be watching game on my phone 🤓

Thank goodness for 11 am kickoff. It would be bad to have play by play in background while the bride and groom are taking their vows. The groom and most of grooms party are Illini grads and former block I. Maybe that is why it is a 5 pm wedding.

I was a freshman in '84, saw all the games in person, except UM in 1983.

If we can duplicate that last score in your chart, we may just rocket up the AP rankings next week!

Now that we know IW is going to play, I'll bet Lunney has a few IW passes built into the wildcat.

I've noticed something very interesting about the Nebraska fan base (supposed to be the ~nicest in college sports~) and the Minnesota fan base ("Minnesota nice" being a very widely repeated phrase). And it is that they both SUCK, lol. Both passive aggressive and petulant jerks, if you ask me.

I genuinely enjoy reading other boards to escape my Illini bubble from time to time, and the Minnesota board seems to be cocky to an almost nasty level ... some posters there seem offended by the ones who give us any respect, haha. I get it from your Michigans or OSUs, but Minnesota? They've been better than us pre-Bielema, but the gap since he was hired is alarmingly small for them to have such arrogance. I guess fans take on the personality of their coach. :ROFLMAO:

I can honestly say Minnesota is one of the schools in the Big Ten that I think/care the least about, but I really want this one!
