To be fair, it was Dad's Day and a LOT of students were sitting with their dads/parents/families (I know my two students were). We were surrounded by students and their families, so I think it's unfair to say they didn't show up. Also worth noting that when the game started the NEZ was probably 50% full, but by the 2nd quarter it was more like 80% full. As others have noted, entry into the game was very slow.

All that said, I'm afraid the combo of no Dad's Day, a bad loss this week, and the cold weather may keep students and others away next week...
When I mentioned Dad's Day I thought it was possible that students were sitting with family members outside of the student section, so that's good to hear.

And slow entry strikes again! I didn't see many more shots of the full end zone once the game started.

My first reaction was, "We played in some important games in 2007." Then I realized 2007 was, in fact, 15 years ago. And now I can literally feel my body turning to dust.
And, when you consider that (1) we didn't have divisions in 2007 and (2) the HUGE upset in Columbus gave our season new life that NOBODY was expecting to get ... I'd say this weekend's game might actually be more crucial for the program than any we played in 2007 until the Rose Bowl.

Yeah, you make a good point. There wasn't really a singular "must win" type of game in 07 that I recall.

Looking forward to attending this one. I dont have any heavy orange or blue coats. So, there will be whiskey involved.

Yeah, hoping the weather doesn't affect attendance too badly! Given the stakes and that it's the last home game, I am semi-hopeful that some student ticket deals start to pop up midweek to get this thing as full as possible. Need at least 48k to get that real home field advantage, IMO. You can hear a noticeable dropoff in "max crowd noise" with our smaller crowds, even if they're into it.

Without a doubt the most important game since Jan 1, 2008. Being able to (almost) clinch the West in Year 2 is a very strong sales pitch to a lot of recruits that we have not traditionally been in the mix for.

I remember going to the Rose bowl in 2008 as a sophomore, and the entire time felt like playing with house money. It ultimately was, since Zook failed to build on the success of 2007 in any measurable way.

The foundation being built in 2022 feels so much different, as there seems to be an identity. The coaching staff is maximizing the output relative to the talent on the field (which explains the ups and downs we have seen). It cannot be understated how big of an opportunity this game is for this program, and as such, the fans need to get out and support the beloved Saturday.

BEAT PURDUE!

If they win 2 out of 3 of the remaining games, and end up being 9-3 that is a great year for only being Bielema’s 2nd year here. That’s a program builder.
Let’s not panic! We have a good competitive football team with a very good above average coaching staff to direct them back in the right direction. BTW division championship is still there for the taking. Steadfast determination will get this win vs PU. Keep the faith! GO ILLINI!!!

Well…my Illini wife and I tried to do our part in Athens, GA this past Saturday. Too bad the team (and Purdue) couldn’t do theirs. Still believe this Illini team can do special things this season. I-L-L.
:illinois:N-I!! Thanks, NIDawg! Saw this when it was on! It was great that the commentators pointed it out and said it was great, too, emphasizing it to a national audience.

It was very cool. Our kids go to UGA, so whenever GameDay is there, we always sport a sign no one else would remotely have. Amongst the 1000 or so Georgia (Tennessee) signs, we’ll be the only ones with the Penn State, or in this case Illini sign and have the show focus upon it. Works every time as their roving cameramen are trained to look for the odd sign in the crowd. And UGA fans let us move up front during the Big Ten segment, and take thrill in getting on the broadcast themselves. Very nice fan base in Athens. At least when they’re winning, I guess.

Hope to see an inspired offense this weekend. I have doubts about Lunny and that press conference if his didn’t ease my concerns any.

Keep. buying tix!!! Team needs the support! BEAT PURDUE!!
Was just trying to check the tickets website, but it looks like it was down. Again, I care mostly how it looks to the players and a national audience, so I think our magic number for respectability is 50-52k! This is what over 56k looked like Saturday, for reference:

Hope a good crowd turns out to support these guys in a MASSIVE game for the program! I am confident we can at least get a Minnesota/Iowa crowd of 45k+, but I'm cautiously optimistic for over 50k.

I do feel the weather is going to affect turnout, which is unfortunate. But, with every game being shown on TV, there's not always a lot of real incentive to go to a game being played in 35 degree weather with 20 mph winds. I'll be there, as I have been for the last 100ish home games, but I'll be a whiny baby about it the whole time. :)
