While the last two weeks have been incredibly disappointing, there needs to be some realization with the fanbase that there would be some sort of regression to the mean. Team is still exceeding all predictions any of us had before the season started. The Illini have been exposed the last two weeks, but I think it’s disingenuous for us to question the effort of the team or even compare it to that the 2018 season. Gimme a break, everyone relax, drink a smoothie.

The last two games have really highlighted our lack of talented depth on both lines. I worried those would be weaknesses for us this year, and was fooled by lack of competition in those areas during our early B10 schedule. Losing a couple studs has not helped either. But the last two weeks both units have been badly overmatched. When you give a sixth year QB a day and a half to throw it he's gonna find somebody open, and even if they aren't today's crew was gonna call a PI. Gotta hope the young guys can get up to speed quickly and provide some depth because that is where the last two game have been lost IMO.

I am going to refrain from any more comments about officiating other than to say that the collapse started from the moment the BS PI call happened. Granted, we let opportunities slip early again (thus my coaching calls comment). Touchdown next play and game over playing catch up the rest of the way. Those calls do not happen in a vacuum and teams like us can't just say "oh well on to the next play" after something that egregious. But it will never change and it has basically ruined both sports for me personally. Wish it were not so.

And to add insult to injury, the sixth year QB you just gave a day and a half to throw is from IL just like the 6th year QB you let do the same thing last week. And there you have IL Football encapsulated in a nutshell. What a disaster it has been. Hopefully brighter days ahead, but as anything, nothing is guaranteed in this life.

Yep I agree. IIRC most people thought 5 wins was our ceiling for this season.
I'm glad we just need to beat NW to get to 8 wins and a decent bowl.

This team was very thin from the beginning and now the injuries have really hit us.

More wins would have been great but I'm still REAL happy we've got BB and REAL happy with this season
Hope BB gets lots of help from the portal for next year

Well, it was nice to dream for a while. Like winning that $2.0B lottery.

Definitely exceeded my expectations, but really have come back to earth the last two weeks.

I entered the University in the fall of 1964 and bought season football tickets. Dick Butkus, Jim Grabowski, and company had easily defeated Washington in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day the previous January. We played Ohio State for our Homecoming game because, in those days, Ohio State was a guaranteed patsy.
I went down to the Quad the afternoon before the game for a pre-game student rally. Butkus spoke as did other players and we all were confident about the next day's game. We lost 26-0. That's our Illini; give us a few rays of hope and then fall apart like a cheap suit.
Little did I know then that my disappointment on 10 October 1964 would endure for the next 58 years and counting.

that was just awful. I can handle a crappy loss (heck, I'm an Illini fan for crying out loud ) but to add insult to injury our stud team leader goes down with around 30 seconds to go when we're down 10 points. smdh good lord. Seriously hope he's okay.

Sorry, but what is this? Give you a break because a 7-1 ranked team was destined to get exposed and be incredibly disappointing? Everyone enjoy a smoothie because we were supposed to expect to eventually suck, just not as much?

It's reasonable to recognize that the team was thin and overrated, but I don't see this board attacking player efforts and I don't know what anyone is supposed to do with your post.

Kick in the nuts these last two games. Gonna kill momentum with the fan base. Sad, but we have to make the most of what we have left even when there is disappointment. Rebuilding this program was never going to be easy or linear. That being said, I've been very disappointed with both coordinators the past few weeks.
