I find Bill Walton annoying. I can certainly appreciate how people see Vitale the same way. But the man has helped popularize the sport immensely, and he goes out and enjoys his job everyday more than I’ve enjoyed mine on any day. I don’t understand how anyone could despise him, hate him, etc.

Exactly. Unlike walnuts, Vitale doesn't go off on tangents about bikes, books, the dead, flip flops, etc. Vitale is also responsible for coining The Flyin' Illini.......imagine a world without that name for that team.
