Rankings aren’t everything, especially this early in the season, but they do shape public perception of a team.

Could this next game be worth a 10 spot swing in the rankings?

Win and we’re ~7.
Lose and we’re ~17.
I think if UVA beats us, they’ll get more of a boost than we’ll get penalized. I’d say 7-10 if we win and 15-16 if we lose?

Yeah this is how it will go, Virginia is a lot better than their rank, should be top 10. Kenpom has them at 4 ahead of everyone in this tourney. So win and we should be top 10 as well.

I swear I want to jump on a flight to Vegas after work in the morning!

Not to go to the game......but to just stand outside and applaud Illini Nation. And maybe hand them all some fine chocolate.

Bravo FamILLy. F'ing Bra. Vo.

The Championship game before the consolation game? They know those rankings will be moving come next week, right?
Let me introduce you to the world of TV controlling everything.

UVA had a pretty good turnout for the first game. It’s going to be insane. Worries about their height a little with out rebounding. Definitely beatable
My observations from yesterday are that UVA is a deeper and more disciplined team than UCLA - and they play better defense. Their starting lineup, however, does not have the talent and athleticism of the Bruins.

I would love to see us bring the defensive intensity out of the gate, and not let up. We won’t wear them down physically to the extent we did UCLA, but I don’t think they have the guard skills to withstand a suffocating defense.

Go, Illini!

Franklin is playing well for UVA stop him and limit turnovers we win

I was surprised to see UVA scoring over 80 with how Bennet normally slows it down

27-35 FT's will help. I'm interested to here from someone who watched this game. Baylor only shot 14 FT's. That's a huge discrepancy. Were the refs bad or was Virginia more aggressive?

UCLA wanted to play slow and we found a way to speed them up. Virginia likes to play even slower.
Yeah, there's truth to that, but Mick Cronin is a different kind of slow than Tony Bennett.

Both teams were happy to hop in the ring for a heavyweight brawl last night. Virginia's goal is to make sure a basketball game doesn't break out.

Not sure whether trying to press them is the right move or not, tbh.

Virginia's point guard is not the offensive threat that ucla's was. Totally different team to def3nd.

Before last night I would have been incredibly happy going 1-1 this weekend, but I'll be at MSG for the Jimmy V Classic and want to watch a Top 10 matchup between Illinois and Texas.
A win at that game would be a great Birthday gift for you!!!! I wish I could be there with you, but it is quite a ways from southern Illinois!!

Beekman and Franklin are heady upperclassmen that get their shots, young Shedrick is long and energetic and will be a challenge to guard at the 5, a tough challenge for the D coming up.
