I remember talking to Teddy Greenstein once in Greektown Chicago (former Trib writer and NW alum). He told me the Illini would never have good football and I told him then as I’ve always believed - with the right coach you can win almost anywhere and Illinois while down has all of the resources to do so. He was rather condescending about it with Fitz doing well at the time.

With that said I want to see us absolutely destroy them.
And thus is demonstrated the judgment and wisdom of most journalists, particularly sports journalists. :cautious:

I kinda wonder (just a little ) what he's doing these days and who is paying him any money for what he writes

Just another reason to hate Northwestern, what a whiny bunch. I wore orange & blue to Kinnick last year, if I can take that so can NW.
I've worn orange and blue and tailgated in prime real estate on Slayter Hill at Purdue with nothing but good natured ribbing back and forth. Lots of Illini about, as well.

Reminds me of Nashville's hockey team trying to block online ticket sales to Illinois zip codes a few years back. Major insecurity

To follow up on my own question, I talked to a nice lady at the NW ticket office. She said that this is, in fact a rule, because "they get abused by fans from other schools being in their donor lot. You wouldn't like it if other fans parked in your lots in Champaign and had their school colors out." I told her I parked in our version of the west lot (31) and we indeed did have opposing fans at every game in the lot. Makes for some fun pregame talk! She said that she is not sure they are enforcing it now, but in the past the team bus used to pull up by the west lot and it was embarrassing to have so many opposing fans there. Now the bus sneaks in another way.

Honestly, it doesn't matter that much, but talk about a bunch of crybabies. The "I'm not sure they enforce it" pretty much guarantees I will have my Illini flag up!
I’ve tailgated in the west lot / lot 1 at northwestern many times and never seen this rule enforced.

Go Illini - see you in Evanston!!

There's some residential parking in the area that is free
I always come in from the north and depending on how much before game time I arrive, I will park on Gregory or just a little North or South of Isabella on either Woodbine or Broadway. Since I don’t think there will be much of a crowd Saturday, I will be looking for a spot on Woodbine, Broadway, or 6th before going back to Gregory. This is all free street parking. Just read the street signs to make sure there are no parking restrictions.

If you want to be close to the Stadium there is a house that offers parking on their lawn for around $40 at the corner of Isabella & Eastwood. I am always surprised how much of the west lot is unused and wonder why they do not allow gameday parking in that lot.

Also came in from the north (for the Notre Dame game a few years ago) and took the second or third parking option that was offered. It was really easy.

Was then led around by NW alums to a very large, open tailgate outside the stadium that welcomed anyone/everyone. They had set-up a massive impromptu bar. Every liquor & alcohol in existence was offered for simply a "donation." I learned it was a weekly occurrence to raise money in support of a campus group or initiative. Great comraraderie among a bunch of alums and fans of the game. One of the best tailgating experiences I've attended in the state of Illinois!

Nervously.........

27 Illini
23 Cats

This game is Northwestern's season. Trusting that the Bielema coaching staff will overcome the Illinois football misfortunes we've come to know over the past 10-20-30 years.

Here's my dream: everything breaks right this weekend and we win the west. Michigan beats O$U and we get a second shot at scUM in the championship game, but we win this time, dashing scUM playoff hopes. Too much to wish for?
Let’s wish for even more. The Michigan-OSU game is ugly with terrible, sloppy play in front of a huge national audience. It goes into overtime with viewers feeling neither team deserves to win, but Michigan squeaks it out after another bad snap and turnover by OSU. Illinois then demolishes Michigan in Indy. Neither OSU nor Michigan makes the CFP, blowing up B$G’s dreams of a big payoff, like a loaded cigar. B$G member schools revolt, forcing it to stop rigging games and let the athletes determine who wins. Dream big!

I haven't attended a game at Dyche Stadium/Ryan Field in decades. Am wondering, however, regarding the nasty parking sitch there that others have described, about the practicality of parking somewhere south along the El toward the city and then taking the El to Central, which is a mere ~ 10 min walk to the stadium. Anyone have experience with that tactic?
I can tell you my cousin used to go to NW home games by train for years. They used to live by midway. Then he ended up near downtown. He had a disability which hampered his movement some, but he was able to do what you described without issues.

I mean what do you expect when their school's colors are purple and their most known sports talking head dorks are Mike Greeny and Mike Wilbon on BSESPN. A lot of their alums would seem to rather listen to NPR while there is a game on lol.

I sincerely hope we go into Evanston and destroy them.

I still remember their clown Coach going for 2 late in the game while having a big lead. It would be so nice to get some payback!
Whilst a large portion of our fanbase would like that, I dont think the animosity between BB and Fitzy is at that stage yet.

if we are up by 17 or more in the 4th, BB will pull the starters and take his foot off the gas

edit: I love using the word "whilst" when I can . it makes me feel smart

Coach's father in law just passed. May impact his availability for the game. Do what ya gotta do coach. Been a rough few days. Prayers.

Sorry, already posted elsewhere.

I would like to see what would happen if Illini ran every single play for first quarter, Could we demoralize them with first downs ? Hoping Chase has bigest game ever. Since Ford didnt turn out like we all thought, would be nice for him to get a score in his last college game.

And the Milwaukee Brewers have done that as well, as Cub fans dominated their park!

I believe it has to do with the one year where TDV was injured and got in less than 4 games for the season. So, going by BBs philosophy of "if you don't ask, you'll never know". Now, where that actual request sits with the powers that be, I don't know.

I swear there have been multiple players at Iowa, in both football and basketball, that have been on the roster for 6 years. Its hardly rare anymore
