I don't ever recall that being the case. First, almost all basket interference by hitting the backboard would be when trying to block the ball. You could try and miss and totally screw up the shot by hitting the backboard.

The point of contention seems to be that once you've hit the ball you can now hit the backboard, but I've never heard that.
Then the point of contention is wrong. Hitting the backboard is never goaltending. That's just a fact that is commonly misunderstood. People slap the backboard all the time excessively when they have no chance of blocking the ball. Its up to the refs judgement If he wants to call it a technical in that scenario. But its never goaltending in any case.

Didn't Brad and Beard have some bad blood over some transfer or recruit in the last year or two? Can't remember what it was.

Art. 2. Basket interference.
a. Basket interference occurs when a player:

5. Causes the basket or backboard to vibrate when the ball is on or within the basket or the backboard and/or is on or in the cylinder.

And yes, I understand that slapping the backboard doesn't get called a lot and it's always upset me because it's a great way to screw up somebody's shot.

I love that we won and Epps revealed his clutch Ayo-esque genes but man, Coleman should not be closing our games. He's anti-clutch.
Coleman is not perfect and probably not a clutch scorer but you always need his defense and passing.

Ya'll, we just played like a B- game and beat the #2 ranked team.

Hold on to your butts.
I call this one a B+ game. (UCLA was probably the only A game so far this year.)

I'm glad you pulled that up. Because on every referee forum I've ever seen its always said the backboard isn't included. Not sure if they amended that or it is different for the NCAA than high school. But I agree with you its definitely how it should be. Still disagree with the Hawkins call, but im glad it went against us in December instead of March.

The thing I really like about this team is that they have the ability to hit you with a 10-point barrage in about 45 seconds. We have not had that since 05. It is nice knowing you are always within reach of the W.
Good observation....and they can do that because they always have at least 3 and sometimes 5 guys on the floor that can bury 3s in a hurry.

It's 1133 pm on a Tuesday night and I refreshed a postgame thread on Loyalty for @ the billionth time in 3 hours.
That alone speaks volumes of the turnaround in this program, personally, since BU took the reins.

It's really early, but one thing that sadly looks like it'll be somewhat of a millstone around our necks this season within kenpom is that EIU, Monmouth, Lindenwood, Alabama A&M, and Bethune Cookman all look to be really really really terrible teams as in ranked 300+ (For reference, we typically average 1 300+ ranked opponent a year, so having 5 is insanely unlucky). In general, you want to avoid this in your cupcakes as much as possible as statistically they have higher weight than they should compared to the rest of your opponents because they are such outliers in how weak they are. Typically you want your cupcakes to finish in the 200s to avoid this (in theory they're just about as easy to beat but won't damage your metrics nearly as much), so a bit of bad luck on our end there.

Long and the short of it is that our kenpom metrics will appear lower than they actually are this season because of this. It's not a huge deal so long as we win the games we should, but our non-conference and overall SOS is going to look much uglier than it should and our efficiency metrics will be deflated because of it. Just something to be aware of. I do wonder if Ken has started playing around with that a little more in muting games against really low quality opponents as I know he wasn't 100% happy about how those games behaved in his models several years ago- maybe I'll drop him a line.
